وَرَيحانٍ يَميسُ عَلى غُصونٍ
يَطيبُ بِشَمِّهِ شُربُ الكُؤوسِ
And basil gently sways on branches
Its scent makes drinking from cups pleasant
كَسودانٍ لَبِسنَ ثِيابَ خَزٍّ
وَقَد تُرِكوا مَكاشيفَ الرُؤوسِ
Like Sudanese wearing silk garments
Yet they have abandoned pillows for heads
