1. وَنُبِّئتُ كَلباً مِن كِلابٍ يَسُبُّني

    وَمَرُّ كِلابٍ يَقطَعُ الصَلَواتِ

    A dog of dogs barking curses at me,

    And dogs frequently interrupting my prayers,

  2. فَإِن أَنا لَم أُعلَم كِلاباً بِأَنَّها

    كِلابٌ وَأَنّي باسِلُ النَقِماتِ

    If I did not know that they were dogs,

    And that I was a resilient and patient man,

  3. فَكانَ إِذَن مِن قَيسِ عَيلانَ والِدي

    وَكانَت إِذَن أُمّي مِنَ الحَبِطاتِ

    Then my father Qais Ailan was to blame,

    And my mother would be of the doomed ones.
