بسم السرور فسرّت الأحياءُ

وسمت بسامي سعدك العلياءُ

In the name of joy, the neighborhoods rejoiced

And marked the sublime your highest fortunes

وروت عن الشرف الرفيع محاسنٌ

طابت بنشر حديثها الأرجاءُ

And told of the noble, eminent, virtues

Its talk delighted the wide horizons

وسرت بروق بشائر قد زانها

من ثغر عدلك بهجةٌ وسناءُ

The lightnings of your justice gleamed

With delight and brilliance from your smile

أضحى الفخار بمجد فضلك باهياً

واعتزَّ في باهي علاك علاءُ

The pride shone brightly with your merit’s glory

And the eminent rose high in your brilliant ascent

سادت بسؤددك الشريف مآثرٌ

ولت على أقمارها الأضواءُ

With your noble help, glorious deeds prevailed

And lights revolved around its moons

وإلى شهامتك السنية إذ عنت

رتب العلى والهمة القعساءُ

And to your courageous chivalry when it meant

The positions of height and stern ambition

راق الزمان وقد صفت أيامه

لما تبلج من سناك ضياءُ

The times flourished when your days

Were illuminated by the radiance of your years

وتزينت بخلاع عزّك رتبة

أنت الهناءُ لهُ وأنت مناءُ

And a position was adorned with your power’s robes

You are its prosperity and you are its achievement

بسمت ثغور النصر لما أقبلت

تهدى إليك الحلة الحسناءُ

The mouths of victory smiled when you came

To be guided to your beautiful wrap

يا حبذا لبنان قد صدحت بهِ

طرباً بوافر فضلك الورقاءُ

How excellent is Lebanon, it roared for you

With abundant grace your delicate parchment

سقيت بهتان الحياءِ ربوعهُ

وزهت بعارض كفك الأفياءُ

Its landscapes were watered from the shame of life

And its horizons beamed with your perfect hand

لو جفّ ماءُ النيل كان لأهلهِ

بوفاءِ نيل بنانك استغناءُ

Even if the Nile’s water dried up, its people

Would be self-sufficient with your Lebanon’s Nile loyalty

او كرّر اسمك فوه من قد شفهُ

سغبٌ لكان لهُ بذاك غذاءُ

Or if one repeated your name, a hungry man

Whose appetite would be satiated by that

أنّي تحَدُّ هبات راحتك التي

حجت لقبلة كفها الأنواءُ

I challenge the gifts of your comfort

That bowed to the prayer niche of its clouds

فتدللي يا تحفة العلياءِ في

روض البشير فقبلتك أباءُ

So pamper yourself, O masterpiece supreme

In the garden of good news, I consent to your kiss

فزت يا سعد كوكبٍ ذي غرةٍ

تُجلى بنور شهابهِ الظلماءُ

You excelled, O Saad, a star of splendor

That dispels the darkness with its flaming light

بشراك في تلك الخلال وحسنها

ولهُ البشارة فيك والنعماءُ

Congratulations on those graces and its beauty

And prosperity upon you and bliss

تفنى المحابر في معاني وصفهِ

أنى تقوم بجمعها الشعراءُ

Descriptions are exhausted in its meanings

How can the poets gather them?

شهمُ إذا هزّ الحسام مغرباً

لاحت لأهل الشرق منه ذكاءُ

Valiant, when he brandished his sword in the west

Brilliance gleamed for the people of the east

بسقيهِ من ثغر النحر سلافةً

صرفاً فتمزجها بفيه لظاءُ

Quenching his throat’s thirst with the swords’ drinks

Purely, so he mixes them in his sharp mouth

ملأ العداة غلافهُ رعباً وفي

جفنيهِ نحو نفوسهم إيماءُ

He filled his enemies with fear, and in

His eyes to their souls a beckoning

إن سلهُ يمينهِ سالت على

صفحاتهِ الأرواحُ والأحشاءُ

If his right hand drew out, souls would spill

Over his surfaces, vitals and bowels

فكأنهُ ذات الوقود وأنفس ال

أعدا مجوس عيدها الأنضاءُ

As if he the fuel itself and their souls

Were Magian sacrificial offerings

ليثٌ بيمناهُ المنية إن بدا

فيها اليماني والنوال حياءُ

A lion whose death in his right hand, if bared

In it the auspicious and assault bashful

فاعجب لها هل ان سمعت بمثلها

كفاً بها صحب الحيوة فناءُ

Marvel at it, did you hear of its like?

It suffices the companions of life annihilation

نعم الأمير وخير من سعدت بهِ

الأيامِ والآمال والأبناءُ

What an excellent prince and best one fortunes smiled upon

Days, hopes and sons

جادت معالمهُ سحائب جودهِ

وتدفقت فعلا الثراءَ ثراءُ

His qualities poured clouds of his generosity

And streams of wealth overflowed copiously

كشفت دياجي الخطب همته ال

لَتي قد أشرقت بسمائها الآراءُ

The veils of my compositions lifted his ambition

That beamed with enlightened opinions

يا أيها المولى الموشح بالرضى

حلل الهنا وببابهِ الألاءُ

O master adorned with contentment

Allow prosperity through your door

فلك التهاني في قدوم خليلةٍ

مقرونة بسعادة غراءُ

Congratulation on the arrival of a beloved

Coupled with splendid fortune

ميمونة بذلت لديك جمالها

يعلو سناها بهجة ورخاءُ

Auspicious, having shown you her beauty

Lofty in joy and comfort

سمياءُ ثابتة العهود وصادقٌ

منها الوداد وصح منك إخاء

High-minded, true to her pacts

Sincere affection from her and brotherly love from you

معنية تعني إليك بأنّ لا

أهلٌ سواكَ لها ولا أبناء

Concerned that none other than you

Are her people and sons

وردت فاهدت للأنام مسرّة

وجلت جبيناً دونه الجوزاء

She came offering glad tidings

And a crescent moon humbled below Virgo

ولها السعود مناطقاً بمعاطف

عطفت على تغظيمها العظماء

With good fortune her zones wrapped in cloaks

The eminent revered honoring her

فاسلم لها ياذا البشير وخير من

جاد المديح به وطاب سناء

So welcome her, O you with good tidings and best who

Offered praise that tasted sweet

ولتحظ فيها كل عامٍ ما انجلى

صبحٌ وهبَّ صبا وفاح شذاء

And may she witness in you each new year

The dawn that rose, youthful zephyr and diffusing fragrance

ولديك بنت الفكر بكرٌ مثلت

تهدي الدعا وبطرفها استحياء

With you is the virgin daughter of thought

Who prays while modesty captures her eye

حلت بدر ثناك عاطل جيدها

وعن الجمان لها بذاك غناء

She arrived like your full moon a slender neck

And the beautiful ones sang for her about that

هبها القبول وإن تكن قد قصّرت

فلها بعفوك مأملٌ ورجاء

Grant her acceptance though she fell short

By your pardon she has hope and anticipation

لا زلت ذا هممٍ وذا نعمٍ وذا

مجدٍ ويهمي من يديك نداء

I still have ambitions, bounties and

Glory with a call to me from your hand

ومؤيداً بعنايةٍ يزهو بها

ثغر الزمان ويستديم هناء

And support with care that makes the

Horizon of time flourish and lasting prosperity

قد جاءَ عبدك بالهناءَ مؤرخا

زد مشرقاً دامت لك العلياء

Your servant came with the good news recording

An ascendant continued your sublimities
