1. يا صاحبي من الملام دعاني

    داعي الصبابة قبل ذاك دعاني

    My friend blamed me

    The caller of youth called me before that

  2. حسبي من الحب المبرح أنني

    أُجري سواد القلب من أجفاني

    It is enough for me from the joyful love that

    I shed the blackness of my heart from my eyelids

  3. لو انصف الأحباب ما هجروا فتىً

    أضحى قتيل الوجد والهجران

    If the loved ones were fair, they would not abandon a young man

    Who became a victim of passion and estrangement

  4. أكذا يجازى ودّ كل متيمٍ

    بالحب أم ذي شيمة الغزلان

    Is this how the loyalty of every loving one is rewarded?

    With love or with the nature of gazelles

  5. كيف السلامة والنجاة لعاشق

    فتكت بلب حشائه العينانِ

    How can there be safety and salvation for a lover

    Whose heart was ripped by the eyes

  6. باقاتلي وجداً ومانح مقلتي

    سهداً وأصبح نازلاً بجناني

    My killer and granter of my glance

    A fawn, yet descending upon my heavens

  7. كبدي وقلبي من لحاظك والهوى

    قد عذبا بالسيف والنيران

    My liver and heart from your glances and love

    Have been tortured by the sword and fires

  8. من عاذري أو منصفي من أهيفٍ

    يثني على عطفيه خوط البان

    Who sympathizes with me or judges me fairly from the reproachers

    Who would praise my kindness in prose

  9. ظبيٌ رعى روض القلوب وما رعى

    عهداً ولم يسمح بطيب تداني

    A deer who grazed the meadow of hearts but did not graze

    A promise and did not allow the goodness of closeness

  10. قنص الفؤاد من الحليم بمقلةٍ

    سحارةٍ قنصت رشا عسفان

    It hunted the heart from the forbearing one with a glance

    Of a sorceress who hunted a flock of sheep

  11. فبلام عارضه وفاتن طرفه

    يسبي الأنام باخضرٍ ويماني

    With his disapproving expression and seducing glance

    He captures people with green and red

  12. فتن العذول ونمّ قلتُ صبابةً

    لهفي على النمام والفتان

    The seducer of virgins, and I said the prime of youth

    Is my fervor for the critic and the seducer

  13. سقياً لأيام اللقاءِ ويا سقى

    ثغر الحبيب رضابه وسقاني

    A drink for the days of meeting, and O you who gives drink

    To the mouth of the beloved, its correctness and my drink

  14. لم أنس حين أتى يهز قوامه

    تيهاً وحياني بما أحياني

    I did not forget when he came shaking his body

    Confused and conversing with me with what delights me

  15. فرأيت غصناً فوقه بدر الدجى

    متمنطق الخصرين بالأجفانِ

    So I saw a branch above which was the full moon of night

    Girded about the two waists with the eyelids

  16. أبكي له مما لقيت من النوى

    درراً فيبسم عن عقود جمانِ

    I cry for it from what I found of vows

    Pearls, so it smiles with knots of vines

  17. متولعٌ بالدل إن دانيتهُ

    يناءى وإن باعدته أدناني

    Infatuated with nearing if I drew him close

    He whispers, and if I distanced him, he drew me near

  18. يهوى إليّ بمرشفٍ عذب اللمى

    ويصدُّ والهفي بخدّ قاني

    He inclines toward me with a soft, sweet pause

    And turns away while my fervor is directed toward his cheek

  19. كم ليلة قضيتها بحديثه

    وبنانه محبوكةٌ ببناني

    How many nights I spent with his talk

    While his glance was interwoven with mine

  20. متسربلين بعفةٍ وصبابةٍ

    فالوجد يغري والتقي ينهاني

    Wearing chastity and youth so desire allures

    And piety prohibits me

  21. حتى الصباح بدا كغرّة ماجدٍ

    زادت به شرفاً رُبى لبنان

    Until the morning shone like the cheek of glorious Ma'bad

    Increasing thereby the honor of the hillsides of Lebanon

  22. هو معدن الشرف الرفيع ومارن ال

    عز المنيع وكوكب الأعيانِ

    He is the source of sublime honor, and who contends

    Supreme might and star of notables

  23. من حل في صدر الفضائل والعلى

    متوشحاً بالحسن والإحسانِ

    Who settled in the chest of virtues and sublimity

    Covered with beauty and benevolence

  24. رب الجمال أبو الكمال وبغية ال

    آمال ثم نتيجة الأزمان

    Lord of beauty, father of perfection, and goal of

    Hopes, then outcome of times

  25. سامي الذرى فرد الورى ليث الشرى

    غيث الندابل سيد الأقرانِ

    The sublime, unique of the earth, lion of adversity

    Rain of heavy clouds, master of peers

  26. نعم الأمين على المحامد والثنا

    مزري السحاب بكفه الهتانِ

    What an excellent trustee of praise and panegyrics

    Cultivator of clouds with his speeches

  27. مولى من الشهب السراة سما به ال

    نسب العريق إلى ذرى عدنان

    My lord from the wandering meteors, it has elevated with him

    The lofty lineage to the ancestry of Adnan

  28. هو والفصاحة والشجاعة والندا

    والعز والعليا رضيع لبان

    He and eloquence, courage, munificence, and retaliation

    Glory, supremacy a suckling babe of Lebanon

  29. بضياءِ طلعته وطلعة سعدهِ

    داما لنا يتناشد القمرانِ

    With the brilliance of his appearance and good augury

    They will last, conversing the two moons

  30. ما عودت يمناه منذ فطامه

    إلّا طعان عدىً ونيل أماني

    His prosperity has not desisted since he was weaned

    Except a piercer of the enemy and achiever of hopes

  31. هزت يداه على ابن زايدةٍ ندىً

    وعلى ابن معدي سمهريّ طعان

    His hands shook Ibn Zayid with dew

    And Ibn Mu’di and Samhuri with spears

  32. أضحى له الشعر البليغ سليقةً

    تهمي بسحبانٍ على سحبانِ

    Eloquent poetry has become his nature

    Rushing at Suhban upon Suhban

  33. فغدا أخا بذل ونظمٍ مانحاً

    درين در عطاً ودر معاني

    He became a brother of generosity and a bestowing author

    Of ready generosity and meanings

  34. سادت به الآداب واعتزت فما

    يلفي له عند البلاغة ثاني

    Through him manners prevailed and became honored so he does not

    Find a second in eloquence

  35. سلب النهى بلطافة ونباهةٍ

    والسمع والأصغا بسحر بيان

    He took away bashfulness with subtlety and brilliance

    The hearing and listening with the magic of rhetoric

  36. يا سيد الأمراء والكبراء وال

    شعراء والمعروف والعرفان

    O master of princes, grandees, poets and benevolence and custom

    O son of the one in the garden of whose just rule

  37. يا ابن الذي في روض محكم عدله

    ونواله يتموج البحران

    And bestowal the two seas surge

    The heights were adorned by his glory a necklace of years and safety

  38. وسمت به العليا وطوّق جيدها

    من مجده عقدي سناً وأمان

    He is the bearer of victory and prosperity

    And the warner with a cutting sword

  39. فهو البشير بنجدة وسعادة

    وهو النذير بصارمٍ وسنانِ

    I dedicate eulogies to you which I compared

    To your virtues with pearls and coral

  40. أهدي إليك مدائحاً قدلتها

    من وصفكم بالدر والمرجانِ

    Grant them acceptance though I fell short

    And submit with friendship and regards

  41. هبها القبول وإن تكن قد قصرت

    واسلم ودم بسيادةٍ وتهاني
