1. نادت ذوابلهُ في كفهِ عجباً

    أين الألى حسدوا أين الذي بغضا

    He waved his hand in wonder,

    Where are those who envied, where are those who hated?

  2. ليثٌ على ضامرٍ كالنجم غرتهُ

    والريح هبتهُ والبرق ان ركضا

    A lion on a lean camel, like a star it deceived him,

    And the wind blew him, and the lightning if it ran.

  3. كأن أسمره لقمان حين بدا

    يبري القلوب إذا أخفت بها المرضا

    As if his dark complexion was Luqman when he appeared,

    Making hearts happy when grieved with illness.

  4. كريم أصلٍ إذا جادت مكارمهُ

    خلت السحاب على تلك الربى عرضا

    Generous origin, when his virtues overflow,

    The clouds left those hills with breadth.

  5. سادت بهمته الأراءُ واكتسبت

    من حزم فطنته إيضاح ما غمضا

    His ambition ruled opinions and obtained,

    From the wisdom of his intelligence the clarification of what was ambiguous.

  6. هذا هو الجنبلاطيّ الذي امتثلت

    أهل المعالي لما قد سنهُ وقضا

    This is Al Joumblatt whom the people of high ambitions,

    Complied to what he legislated and judged.

  7. وربما انتقضت تلك الجبال وما

    يقوله ذا ثبات ليس منتقضا

    And those mountains may collapse while

    What this steadfast one says is not collapsible.

  8. إليك أهدي الثنايا من بمدحته

    جواهر المدح درٌّ لم تكن عرضا

    To you I gift the finest from praising him,

    Precious praise, a jewel that was not displayed.

  9. باهت محاسنك الغراء في شيم

    جاد النظام بها والمدح قد فُرضا

    The beautiful traits of your grace have vanished in qualities,

    Order flowed them and praise was made obligatory.

  10. قد جاءَ عبدك مشتاقاً للثم يدٍ

    يحوز لاثمها من دهره الغرضا

    Your slave has come longing to kiss a hand,

    That seizes its kisser from his life’s purpose.

  11. دم في سعودٍ شدا من شام طالعها

    برقٌ بلبنان أم نجم الصباح اضا

    Remaining in Saoud, a lightning shone from its rising place in Damascus,

    A lightning in Lebanon or the morning star.
