1. الخيل عزوفي صهواتها الشرفُ

    وهن للحرّ ذي المجد السني تحف

    My horses are the pride in their gallant trotting,

    They are the glory for the honorable and brave.

  2. والخير في ناصيات الخيل منعقدٌ

    وكل شهمٍ بهذا الخير يعترف

    Goodness lies in the forelocks of horses,

    And every spirited one admits this goodness.

  3. العاديات التي في جريها خببٌ

    لا الجاريات التي في عطفها الهيف

    Those running smoothly, not those walking jerkily,

    Are the beloved mistresses, the epitome of beauty.

  4. هن العشيقات ربات الجمال فلا

    تيهٌ بهنّ على الصابي ولا صلف

    Do not be misled by them to long for a young boy or be rude.

    Their backs are impregnable fortresses of glory,

  5. ظهورهنّ حصون العزِّ شامخةٌ

    فليس يعلو عليها الذل والأسف

    No humiliation or sorrow prevails over them.

    What excellent company when disasters strike

  6. نعم الصحاب إذا ما النائبات عدت

    على الفتى ودهاه الخطب واللهف

    The young man, and worries and longing assail him!

    They are treasures on the day of horrors.

  7. هنَّ الذخائر في يوم الشدائد بل

    هنَّ الحسان التي يسمو بها الشغفُ

    Indeed, they are the most wondrous obsession.

    Have you not seen Julaylan, whom the books

  8. أما رأيت جلُيلان الذي عجزت

    عن ان تضم معاني حسنه الصحفُ

    Failed to contain the beauty of his merits?

    Not Aujay, who gained glory above all steeds,

  9. لا عوجي الذي حازت به شرفاً

    كل الجياد واعي كل من يصف

    And is aware of whoever describes him?

    If the winds intended, while it was racing,

  10. لو الرياح أرادت وهي جاريةٌ

    سباقهُ قصرت عن ذاك بل تقفُ

    To outrun it, they would fall short and halt.

    It wears a robe of pearls spread out,

  11. عليه ثوب من المرجان منتشرٌ

    تزهو وحاكى الدجى سرواله السدفُ

    Gleaming, its coat mimicking the night’s darkness.

    With shoulders well-spaced, powerful forelegs,

  12. قب اضلع مفتول اليدين فلا

    يكاد يدرك إذ يعدو وينصرفُ

    It can hardly be reached when it bolts and wheels about.

    It pounds the pebbles where it trod at dawn,

  13. دكت حوافره والحصباءَ حيث غدا

    كان صمّ الصفا من وطئه خزفُ

    Deafening al-Safa with its striking hooves.

    With the beautifully braided, fleeing,

  14. بالمعنقية أخت الريم نافرةً

    والبرق عادية يستحسن الكلف

    Its quick lightning bolts beautifully adorned.

    Bright-faced, its two cheeks are clothed at dawn

  15. زرقاءُ مشرقة اللحيين قمصها ال

    صباح ثوباً قشيباً ما به كلفُ

    In a grey Emirati cloak with no patches.

    As if the night had thrown in its running

  16. كأنما الليل ألقى في كراعبها

    من الظلام حجولاً دونها الشنفُ

    Dark shadows, with less shadows in front.

    Blessed is its blonde sister, unleash her,

  17. يا حبذا أختها الشقراءُ أرسلها

    إن شاء يختطف الأقمار يختطفُ

    If you wish, to snatch the orbiting moons.

    Golden as pure gold, at dusk it shamed

  18. صفراءُ كالذهب الصافي وغرتها

    بدر به عن ضيا بدر الدجى خلفُ

    The waning moon, and the moon disappeared behind.

    Coquettishly stepping sideways to the north,

  19. غرا محجلة الرجل الشمال إلى

    خلخالها الكوكب السيار ينعطفُ

    The wandering star swerves towards her anklet.

    The unique, dark-bay steed has a frame

  20. والأدهم الفرد مثل الطود هيكله

    مولىً بثوبٍ من الظلماءِ ملتحفُ

    Like a mountain, clad in a black coat.

    With a wide forehead, handsome face that

  21. ساجي المحيا عريض الخد يحسدهُ

    بدر السما ولذاك البدر ينخسفُ

    The full moon envies so it wanes.

    The bolting lightning in the valley and plain,

  22. السابق البرق في حزنٍ وفي سهلٍ

    وليس يعلم ما الأعياءُ والوكفُ

    It knows not fatigue or boredom.

    They are the noble ones who gained all honor

  23. هنَّ الكرام وحازوا كل مكرمةٍ

    من ماجدٍ كفه كالغيث إذ يكفُ

    From the glorious one whose palm is rain when it pours.

    He is the bringer of good tidings, whose beautiful

  24. هو البشير الذي كل القلوب غدت

    على مدايحه الحسناء تأتلفُ

    Praises all hearts are inclined towards.

    The brilliant, meteoric one, whose hand

  25. الألمعيُّ الشهابيُّ الذي يدهُ

    أنت بفيض نداها ذكر من سلفوا

    You have lived in prosperity through his overflowing support.

    He honored you as master, so his virtues flooded forth

  26. أكرم به سيداً فاضت مكارمه

    كأنما السحب من كفيه تغترف

    As if the clouds draw from his palms and ladle.

    By his reign our days have prospered,

  27. شهم بدولته أيامنا سعدت

    فالظلم مندرسٌ والعدل منتصفُ

    Injustice is demolished and justice encamped.

    The lethal lion with marvelous virtues, the books

  28. الفاتك الأسد الرئبال من شهدت

    له الصفاح وسمر الخط تختلف

    And lines of poetry glorify him with differences.

    To you, O exalted one, a loyal servant offers

  29. إليك يا ذا العلى يهدي عقود ثنا

    عبدٌ بإحسانك الوافي معترف

    Homage with a heart acknowledging your favor.

    So permit him, through your care, days

  30. فاسمح لها بقلوبٍ منك يسعدها

    ودم سليماً عليك العز والشرف

    Of bliss, and a life safeguarded by might and glory.

    You remain of sublime rank and enjoying blessings

  31. لا زلت ذا رتبةٍ عليا وذا نعمٍ

    نجني ثمار المنى منها ونقتطف

    Whose fruits we pick and gather.
