1. تجلت لدينا في محاسنها مصرُ

    فراق لنا وجه المسرة والبشرُ

    Egypt appeared to us in all its beauty

    The face of joy and good news departed from us

  2. ونمت أزاهير الرياض سحيرةً

    فأحيى فوادي من حدائقها نشر

    The flowers of the gardens bloomed enchantingly

    Reviving my heart with their flourishing blossoms

  3. تميل على الكثبان أفنان دوحها

    يرنحها من فرط نشأتها سكر

    The dunes lean with their bending branches

    Swaying drunkenly from their abundant growth

  4. ومرجان ماء النيل يرفض جوهراً

    تحلت به أفيا زمردها الخضر

    The coral of the Nile’s water refuses pearls

    Adorned with its green emeralds

  5. روضتها المقياس أصبح قائلاً

    عيون المها أين الرصافة والجسر

    Its gardens have become saying

    O eyes of me, where is Al Rashafa and the bridge

  6. بها ما تمنته النفوس لأنها

    غدت جنةً يجري بها الكوثر الوفر

    In it is what souls desire for it has become

    A paradise with abundant flowing springs

  7. منازلها عزٌ وأمنٌ رحابها

    وأمواهها شهدٌ وساحاتها تبر

    Its homes are dignity and security, its expanse

    Its waters are honey and its plains are perfume

  8. حللت بها والدهر يرمي سهامه

    فكفت بكفيها الذي رشق الدهر

    It adorned itself while fate shot its arrows

    Blocking with its hands what fate cast forth

  9. ومدت لنا بسط المسرات والصفا

    لويلاتها الغرا وأيامها الزهر

    And stretched out to us the carpets of joy and clarity

    After its woeful times and floral days

  10. وأملت علينا من محاسن أهلها

    صحائف لا زالت يطالعها الفكر

    And inspired in us from the beauty of its people

    Pages still read by the mind

  11. فطابت أويقات السرور بظلها

    وساعات أفراحٍ لعمري هي العمر

    Thus the times of bliss were pleasing in its shade

    And the hours of joy – for my life they are life

  12. نداماي من لبنان دار أحبتي

    سقاه الحيا غيثاً وباكره القطر

    I regret the home of my beloved in Lebanon

    Watered by rains and early drops

  13. ولا برحت تلك الظباءُ بروضه

    يكحل جفنيها من الحور السحر

    Those gazelles did not cease in its meadows

    Lined with enchanting houri eyes

  14. وتهتز هاتيك القدود مقلةً

    بدور جمال بات يحسدها البدر

    Those slender waists swaying

    With the rhythm of beauty envied by the full moon

  15. ممنعة بين القواضب والقنا

    يضرم في أحشاءِ عاشقها الجمر

    Hidden between the boats and the reeds

    Kindling the embers in the heart of their lover

  16. لا بلغا ذات الجمال بأنني

    أسير هواها لا يفارقني الأسر

    They did not deliver to the beauty that I

    Am captive to her love, fettered without escape

  17. ولي كبدٌ تصبو إليها وإن نأت

    ولم تأتلف صبراً وإن حمد الصبر

    My liver yearns for her though she is remote

    Not accustomed to patience though patience is praised

  18. أبيت إذا جنَّ الظلام معللاً

    فؤادي بذكراها وهل ينفع الذكر

    I refuse, when night falls, to find solace

    In remembering her - does memory even help?

  19. سلا ظبية الوعسا التي فوق ثغرها

    خويلٌ له في قلب عاشقها ثغر

    Ask the roe deer of the bent branch above her lip

    In the heart of her lover there is a wound from her wound

  20. ترى علمت ماذا لقيت من الهوى

    وهل عندها علمٌ بما فعل الهجر

    Does she know what I have suffered from passion?

    Is she aware of what separation has done?

  21. دهاني النوى لكن حطمت يد النوى

    بقرب بجورٍ في أناملهم بحر

    My tears and wailing but the hand of fate

    In their fingers holds vast oceans

  22. بنو البحر إلّا أنهم درر العلى

    وأهل الوفا لكن دأبهم البر

    The people of the sea are pearls and nobles

    And true loyalists, though loyalty is their way

  23. وما منهم إلا نبيهٌ مهذبٌ

    نراه بديوان اليراع هو الصدر

    None but refined and cultured prophets

    We see them foremost in lineage and rank

  24. بجرمانس ساد الحساب وأصبحت

    دفاتره الزهراءُ يعشقها الزهر

    In Germany they excelled in mathematics

    Their radiant books adorned with poetry

  25. يريك إذا هزت يراعاً بنانه

    عقود جماناتٍ معادنها الحبر

    When Yura shakes his pointer you see

    Strands of pearls their ink is the sea

  26. وفاخر يوحنا بإنشائه الصبا

    فرقت لألفاظٍ بها انعقد الدر

    John prides himself on his eloquent youth

    His words are strung like linked pearls

  27. تود ذؤابات الحسان إذا انتضى

    ليكتب سطراً انها ذلك السطر

    If only the branches of virtue would choose

    To write but one line - for that line is theirs

  28. هما فرقدا أوج اليراعة والنهى

    وأبناءُ بيتٍ مهده النظم والنثر

    The two ascended to the peak of refinement and guidance

    Sons of a house founded on prose and verse

  29. وبدران ضاءا فطنةً وبلاغةً

    كما أشرقت حسناً صفاتهما الغر

    Two full moons shining with intellect and rhetoric

    As their traits shone with beauty and splendor

  30. فلا برحا ربي سعودٍ ولم يزل

    يصحح عن فضليهما الخبر الخبر

    Continuously my Lord Saud authenticated

    Report after report of their superiority

  31. فلولاهما ما راق انسي ولم تكن

    تجلت لدينا في محاسنها مصر

    Without them my being would not be content

    Egypt would not have appeared to us in its beauty
