O light of my life, pass me the wine, let me rejoice,
The light of victory shines from the face of the bearer of good news.
Replenish the cup and give me the pure wine,
On the banks of your radiant smile.
As long as the full moon shines in it,
And a sun, were it the juice of grapes.
The light has clothed it with bubbles,
Can you turn towards the great?
An unparalleled vintage, no glass can hold it,
It has a cup made of enlightened reason.
Come, give me a cup with the Pleiades,
And give me in the blossoms of al-Ghadir.
Sing to me, my boon companion,
That we may drink from the hand of the gentle gazelle.
For the lute sounds sweet to us in song,
Sweeter than the breeze on the flowers.
With your life, gently rouse the pitcher,
For we have no other than it for a companion.
Dazzling, it shines in a swaying hand,
That has unveiled for love the veils of modesty.
A potion beyond the taste of any potion,
For what is in its hands of wine.
And when it tasted the wine of confusion, it was amazed,
And called us, come for joy!
And it sent messengers from the languor of glances,
To call for love without languor.
And we remained sipping the early draught
Until we sipped it in cups from the peaks.
And we did not attain a vintage that would intoxicate us,
Or the dawn from the face of the full moon.
And the cups shone for the repentant,
Like the shining of stars from the full moons.
In a meadow, the branches in it bent,
As we inclined to describe the prince.
The prince of nobility and glory,
Bringer of victory, generosity and abundance.
So if his hands are generous one day
They make the clouds or the overflowing seas seem scarce.
He gathered in his abode virtuous women,
Who incline only to the garden of equals.
Scion of glory, if he calls out, exalted,
They obediently and readily respond.
And glory called out my name
To its lofty summits, O lofty one, advance!
So glory answered me, then said,
None other than him has been a supporter for me.
A glorious full moon arose for the elite,
To guide the newcomers to the path.
And from his hands generosity overflowed
With endless giving and abundance.
He shelters his guest in his care,
Dearer than the clouds and the Pleiades.
Adorned with perfection, as
His virtues adorned his protected grounds.
For the House of Shihab in the victory of Bashir,
And for the enemies, faithful as the warner.
So he never unleashed his hunting dogs
Except to sheathe them in throats and breasts.
And if his slim gazelles were thirsty,
Their throats would be watered by the springs of breasts.
So how much darkness conspired and raged,
Only to be extinguished by his mighty blades.
Valiant, if he slowed in a battle,
He would stab with the long and the short sword.
And no envious person of his glory,
Came to him except submissively like a seeker of refuge.
O my master, O redeemer,
You remain protected from misfortunes.
Your loftiness has been reached by a daughter of thought,
To sing your praises in melodious verse.
From a man of dignity, I send prayers,
Eulogizing at daybreak and dusk.
So may the stars of good fortune continue
To bring you good fortune and ample provision.
And may good fortune serve you in delight,
With honor in purposes and affairs.
A servant has come to you illuminated,
The light of victory from the face of the bearer of good news.
