كم اكتم الوجد والأجفان تعلنه

بغادةٍ كلما تلقاه تفتنه

How much I conceal my passion and my eyelids betray it

With a smile whenever I meet her, she enchants me

مذ هاجرتني وولى الصبر احسنه

سالتها عن فؤادي أين مسكنه

Since she left me and patience deserted me at its best

I asked her about my heart, where is its dwelling?

لأنه ضاع مني عند مسراها

Because it was lost to me when she departed

So her smile widened in wonder when she heard

فافتر مبسمها عجباً وقد طلعت

في وجنتيها نجوم الورد إذ سمعت

And stars of roses bloomed on her cheeks

And when she understood what I said, she replied

وعندما فهمت ما قلته رجعت

قالت لدي قلوب جمةٌ جمعت

"I have many hearts with me I have gathered"

So which one is yours, I said, O my torment!

فأيها أنت تعني قلت أشقاها
