1. بدا ينجلي تحت الغلالة والبردِ

    غزال غزا قلب المتيم بالقدِ

    The gazelle penetrated the heart of the lover with love

    And appeared with a mole above the chair of his cheek

  2. واطلع خالاً فوق كرسي خدّه

    على غرّة يدعو القلوب إلى الوجدِ

    On the softness that calls hearts to passion

    So whoever's cheeks and reproach of lameness

  3. فمن ورد خديه ولامي عذاره

    لقد بتُ أقرا شرح لامية الوردي

    I have spent the night reciting the lamentations of al-Wardi

    The ruby under emerald is not better

  4. فما صفخة الياقوت تحت زمردٍ

    بأحسن من آس العذار على الخدِ

    Than the reproach of lameness on the cheek

    With my slanderous body, swaying unsteadily

  5. بروحي ممشوق القوام مهفهفاً

    يميس فيزري باللدان وبالملدِ

    Staggering with passion and rapture

    Repeating glances and gestures on his cheeks

  6. كرّر في وجناته اللحظ والحيا

    يدجبها بالأرجوانة والسندِ

    Adorning them with pink and lily

    If I have nothing but a kiss of his lips

  7. إذا لم يكن لي غير تقبيل ثغره

    فإني رضيٌّ بالقليل من الشهدِ

    I am content with a little honey

    So wonder at my yearning while he is present

  8. فواعجبي اشتاقه وهو حاضرٌ

    واسأل عنه وهو يرتع في كبدي

    And ask about him while he rests in my innermost being

    With his silver bracelet I saw an image

  9. بعصمه الفضي شاهدت صورةً

    غداة وضعنا الكف بالكف للعهدِ

    The morning we shook hands in pledge

    So I said what makes you smile when you said

  10. فقلت له ماذا تبسم قائلاً

    بدا من صفا جسمي خيالك في زندي

    An apparition of my body appeared in your waistband

    O brother of the gazelle, your sick eye is healthy

  11. أخا الظبي عيناك المراض بصحةٍ

    على عرضٍ ترمي الفواد على عمدِ

    Aiming at a chest that throws hearts into purposeful lunacy

    Gently you have seized my heart by force, was it not

  12. رويداً أخذت القلب غصباً ألم يكن

    لأهل الهوى شرعاً فيحكم بالردِ

    A law for lovers, so judge by restoration

    When will the crazed recover with a visit?

  13. متى يشتفي الولهان بزورةٍ

    ويجني ثمار الوصل من روضة الوعدِ

    And reap the fruits of union in the garden of promise

    By your life, love's taste is sweet

  14. لعمرك ان الحب حلو مذاقه

    إذا لم يكن مرُّ الفراق أو الصدِ

    If not bitter with separation or prevention

    So many nights I spent in joy

  15. فكم ليلةٍ قضّيتها بصبابةٍ

    سروراً أواخرى بالكآبة والسهدِ

    Others in gloom and sleeplessness

    I tasted love in my chastity and patience

  16. وذقت الهوى من عفتي وتصبري

    كما ذقت من بلباله زمن البعدِ

    As I tasted in his nightingale's time of absence

    The inclination of love is the youth's leaning and fervor

  17. أمرّ الهوى ميل الفتى وهياجه

    غراماً وأشواقاً إلى غير ذي ودِ

    With passion and longing to one without affection

    The best poetry is that which is honest

  18. وأحسن ما في الشعر ما كان صادقاً

    كمدح الشهابي البشير أبي المجدِ

    Like al-Shihabi’s praise of al-Bashir Abu al-Majd

    An eminent prince, his worth increased and his awe

  19. أميرٌ سما قدراً وزاد مهابةً

    وفاض عباباً بالمروؤة والرفدِ

    Overflowed with manliness, generosity and aid

    His palm revived the weak with his generosity

  20. غدا كفه محيي العفاة بجوده

    ومفتي العدا بالسمهرية والهندي

    And punished the enemy with swords and spears

    He is the audacious and glorious one who

  21. هو الضيغم المقدام والماجد الذي

    غدا بين أهل المجد كالعلم الفردِ

    Became unique among the glorious people

    An atom attempting to count his gifts

  22. الأقل لصرافٍ يعد هباته

    متى حصر البحر العرمرم بالعدِ

    As though confining the tumultuous sea with counting

    You see him gentle while at peace

  23. تراه أوان السلم الطف قائل

    ويزأ ريوم الحرب كالأسد الوردِ

    And fierce as a rose-colored lion during wars

    So when his hands give generously with bounties

  24. فغيث إذا جادت يداه بنائلٍ

    وليث إذا سل الحسام من الغمدِ

    And when he unsheathes the sword from its scabbard

    With his highest eminence, a praising meteor

  25. بذروته العليا شهاب محامدٍ

    علا مشرقاً يهدي الوفود إلى الوفدِ

    He rose radiantly guiding delegations to the delegation

    O noble one whom the foreheads of eminent people, knights and lions bowed to

  26. ألا أيها الشهم الذي خضعت له

    جباه المعالي والفوارس والأسدِ

    And you became with wise opinion, munificence, intrepidity, justice and feet unequalled and peerless

    Servants of God came to you with a robe of honor

  27. وأصبح بالرأي السديد وبالندا

    وبالعدل والأقدام فرداً بلا ندِ

    That came to illuminate a glory or good wishes

    Its radiant beauty lights up prosperity

  28. أتاك عبيدٌ للهناءِ بخلعة

    أتت تنجلي عزا أو طيب الثنا تهدي

    So the eminent smile thankfully and gratefully

    It carries joy while it has sovereignty

  29. يضيءُ محياها البهيج سعادةً

    فتبتسم العلياءُ بالشكر والحمدِ

    And it gained the honor of your reception intentionally

    You continued to receive it and receive you whenever

  30. عليها سرورٌ وهي ذات سيادةٍ

    وقد ظفرت من حسن لقياك بالقصدِ

    Stars and orbits brought a youthful east wind

    Your glory is evident and your fortune radiant

  31. فلا زلت تلقاها وتلقاك ما أضت

    كواكب أفلاك وهبت صبا نجدِ

    Your life extended and living comfortable

    And you continued in each dated year

  32. ومجدك وضاح وسعدك مشرق

    وعمرك ممدودٌ وعيشك ذو رغدِ

    To bring you victory, honor, and prosperity

  33. ولا برحت في كل عامٍ مؤرخٍ

    تزفُّ لكم بالنصر والعز والسعدِ
