1. هبت نسيمات السرور

    بحديث ربات الخدور

    The breezes of joy have blown,

    With the talk of maidens in bowers,

  2. وسرت فاهدت للفوا

    د عرار ذياك العبير

    And they traveled and gifted the branches

    The perfume of that fragrant wood,

  3. مرت بهن سحيرةً

    فتحملت نشر الثغور

    They passed by the maidens intoxicated,

    Bearing the scent of buds,

  4. وتأرجت إذ لاثمت

    تلك المباسم في البكور

    And were perfumed when they kissed,

    Those smiles in the early dawn,

  5. جاءت ضحى فتماوجت

    في عرف لبنان العطير

    They came at dawn and intermingled,

    In the pleasant fragrance of Lebanon,

  6. والروض قد خلع الربيع

    عليه كالثوب النضير

    The garden shed the spring,

    Upon it like a new garment,

  7. يزدان بين مسلسل

    مثل العذار ومستدير

    Adorned with a chain,

    Like a necklace round and shining,

  8. والزهر يشرق ضاحكاً

    في غرة السفح المطير

    And the flowers laugh brightly

    In the soft, rainy slope,

  9. لعبت به أيدي الصبا

    فلوى النحور على الخصور

    The hands of morning played with it,

    And twisted the slender bodies at the hips,

  10. والغصن صفق راقصاً

    يهتز من فوق الغدير

    And the branches clapped dancing,

    Shaking above the stream,

  11. ولهان هيجهُ الهوى

    كحنين ساجعة الطيور

    Passion excited it,

    Like the cooing of a languid bird,

  12. يا صاح هل للصب من

    ألم الصبابة من مجير

    Oh friend! Does the youth have

    The pain of lovesickness and passion?

  13. أم للمتيم غير تذ

    كار الأحبة من سمير

    Or does the lover have anything but

    Remembering the beloved from conversing?

  14. من لي بها قناصةً

    ولعت بتعذيب الأسير

    Who can I have as a huntress,

    Who is obsessed with torturing the captive?

  15. هيفاءُ يشرق وجهها

    كالبدر في ليل الشعورِ

    Haifa's face shines

    Like the full moon in the dark night,

  16. ميادة لعبت بقا

    متها الصبا عند المسير

    Miyada played with her figure,

    Youth played with it while walking,

  17. يا ظبيةً سلبت بدو

    ر التم بالوجه المنيرِ

    Oh gazelle! Who stole

    Hearts with her bright face,

  18. ما قيل فيك ظبيةٌ

    إلا لفرطكِ بالنفورِ

    Nothing was said about you gazelle,

    Except for your excessive aloofness,

  19. قِليّ لقد أسرفتِ في

    فتك الفواد المستطير

    Tell her she was excessive in

    Slaughtering enamored hearts,

  20. نهداك والعينان تف

    تن بالنشاط وبالفتور

    Her breasts and eyes

    Dazzle with vigor and languor,

  21. أفدي بروحي مبسماً

    قفل العقيق على الخمور

    I ransom with my soul a smile,

    That locks the red wine on the lips,

  22. من منجدي في حبها

    يا صاحبي أو من عذيري

    Who can aid me in loving her,

    Oh friend, or console me?

  23. أدر المدامة واسقني

    واشرب مع الظبي الغريرِ

    Pass the wine cup and serve me a drink,

    And drink with the captivating gazelle,

  24. وتعاطها أن لم تجد

    ورد الخدود على الزهور

    And court her if you do not find,

    The roses of cheeks upon the flowers,

  25. صهباءَ حلل مزجها

    بنت الشموس إلى البدور

    Blonde, she wore dresses,

    The daughter of suns to allure,

  26. سبكت لنا في الراح إكس

    يراً لتذهيب الكدورِ

    She wove for us in comfort,

    A necklace to gild worries,

  27. حيى بتدين الإله

    وجادها غيث السرور

    Long live her religion,

    And her abundant joyous rain,

  28. دار تضوع مسكها

    ريح الصبا عند العبورِ

    A house whose musk is diffused

    By the morning breeze when passing,

  29. أجرى الصفاءُ بروضها

    شهداً من الماء النميرِ

    Purity flowed in her garden,

    With abundant good honey,

  30. وتدفقت من حولها ال

    أنهار بالخير الكثير

    Its maidens danced around it

    To the sound of tumbling rapids,

  31. رقصت جواري مائها إل

    فضي تصدع بالهدير

    The branches were watered and became

    Flexible like the supple branches,

  32. سقت الغصون فمسن كال

    ندمان سرّت بالحضور

    By its great blessing,

    A spring of abundant joy,

  33. للَه بركتها الكبيرة

    مورد الطرب الوفير

    Surrounded by a cypress like

    A spear, with silk green,

  34. حفت بسروٍ كالقيا

    نِ تآزرت خضر الحريرِ

    They watch a chain circulating

    Around them like a water-bearer,

  35. يلحظن سلسالاً يدو

    ر بهنّ كالساقي المديرِ

    And it straightened its fountains

    Offering it the gems of light,

  36. واستنهضت فوارها

    يهدي لها درر النحورِ

    Tall, strolling in

    The dress of soft silk on a bed,

  37. سامي القوام يميس في

    ثوب اللجين على سرير

    The braids of hair danced with it,

    Appearing like attendants,

  38. دارت ميازيب السبا

    ع به تمثل كالحضور

    Dancing more and more

    As the lute sang melodies,

  39. يزداد رقصاً كلما

    غنت لديه كالزمور

    Flowing, as if it were

    The generous hand of the young prince,

  40. متدفقاً فكأنه

    كف الشهابيّ البشيرِ

    For he is the prince, son of a prince

    Son of a prince, son of a prince

  41. فهو الأمير بن الأميرِ

    بن الأمير بن الأميرِ

    And the glorious builder of the glory

    Of the high ones with famed justice,

  42. والماجد الباني ذرى

    العلياءِ بالعدل الشهيرِ

    A master whose bestowal,

    Made the sea of wealth gush forth,

  43. مولىً أيادي بذلهِ

    أربت على فيض البحورِ

    You always see his wealth,

    Clasped in the hand of the poor,

  44. أبداً ترى أمواله

    مقبوضة بيد الفقيرِ

    With the alchemy of praise, as he

    Is the healer of the broken heart,

  45. ذو كيمياءِ الحمد إذ

    هو جابر القلب الكسيرِ

    Good fortune to the sinner whose

    Hand has won abundant generosity,

  46. طوبى للأثم كفهِ

    قد فاز بالكرم الغزير

    A noble, generous, more wonderful

    Courageous, mighty refuge,

  47. قرمٌ كريم أروعٌ

    شهم عزيز المستجير

    A hero whose sword,

    Rules the brow of the intrepid hero,

  48. بطلٌ يحكم سيفهُ

    في جبهة البطل الهصور

    His hands were victorious,

    Despite the schemes of rivals,

  49. ظفرت يداه بالعلى

    رغماً على كيد النظير

    As if he, while war rages,

    And brave warriors arrive on horseback,

  50. فكأنه والحرب تض

    رم والكماة على الظهور

    Is a lion playing with a lance,

    From atop his rearing horse,

  51. ليثٌ يلاعب أرقماً

    من فوق سرحان دريرِ

    Erasing the darkness of its blackness,

    With the brightness of his shining swords,

  52. يمحو ظلام سوادها

    بضيا صوارمه الذكورِ

    With a dark complexion that

    Made hearts of horsemen like sacrifices,

  53. ذو أسمرٍ جعلت له

    مهج الفوارس كالنذور

    A charming knight, except

    He waters bitterness in hell,

  54. عسّال إلّا أنه

    يسقي مراراً في سعيرِ

    As if he were Harut in

    Extracting the treasures of hearts,

  55. فكأنه هاروت في

    إخراجه كنز الصدورِ

    Oh master! You have mastered

    The ruins of proud Lebanon,

  56. يا سيداً سادت به

    أطلال لبنان الفخورِ

    A beautiful maiden came to your door,

    Chaste of conscience,

  57. وافت لبابك غادةٌ

    هيفاءُ من خدر الضميرِ

    Apologizing, boasting in you,

    Poetry of Farazdaq or Jarir,

  58. عذراً تفاخر فيكم

    شعر الفرزدق أو جريرِ

    Sending you abundant prayers,

    And praise from a grateful servant,

  59. تهديك موفور الدعا

    والمدح من عبدِ شكورِ

    Then congratulations with a robe,

    That none but you have supported,

  60. ثم الهناءَ بخلعةٍ

    لم تلق غيرك من نصيرِ

    Scented, it came from Najd,

    To your elevation with yearning,

  61. غراءُ جاءت بالسعو

    د إلى علاك وبالحبورِ

    And flirted when it became

    Engaged to the great Master,

  62. بسّامة قد غازلت

    علياك في طرف قريرِ

    Auspicious, whose engagement

    Lasted, marched the ages,

  63. وتفاخرت إذ أصبحت

    مخطوبة المولى الكبيرِ

  64. ميمونةً أرختها

    دامت تزف مدى الدهورِ
