    Your cheeks, O brother of the full moon

    Seduced me while you were unaware

  2. سبيت الريم في عينٍ

    سبت هاروت بالسحرِ

    I was captivated by the gazelle in an eye

    That bewitched Harut with magic

  3. وأزرى قدُّك الميّا

    س بالأغصان والسمرِ

    The nape of your neck bends the branches

    And the dark night with the myrtle

  4. فيا للّه من ظبيٍ

    رمى الأساد بالأسرِ

    What a gazelle who shot

    The lions with fetters

  5. تضى من جفنه سيفاً

    يحامي قبلة الثغر

    A sword gleams from his eyelids

    Guarding the kiss of the lips

  6. لوى جيداً بهِ وجدي

    ثنى عطفاً بهِ سكري

    He twisted it with passion and desire

    He bent his shoulder gracefully

  7. إلا يا ظبية الوعسا

    أذعتِ بالهوى سرّي

    Except O doe of promise

    You revealed my secret passion

  8. لك العينان من أسما

    فرفقاً بالفتى العذري

    You have two eyes more beautiful than idols

    So be gentle with this chaste youth

  9. مهاةٌ صيّرت قلبي

    كناساً وارتعت صبري

    A seducer who made my heart

    Like a goblet and tried my patience

  10. لها صبح الجبين إذا

    سرت في ظلمة الشعرِ

    The morning light on her forehead when

    She walked in the darkness of her hair

  11. وفي خلع العذار بها

    روى مكحولها عذري

    And when she removed her veil, intoxicated me

    Her flirtation slaked my thirst

  12. رعاها اللَه كم همنا

    بها وجداً ولم تدري

    May God protect her! How often

    She distressed and pleasured me, unaware

  13. تذكرنا العذيب وبا

    رقاً بالمبسم الدرّي

    She reminds me of the aromatic herb—

    Delicate as the dewy blossom

  14. وفي فمها لقد ختمت

    بمرجانٍ على خمرِ

    And in her mouth, she has sealed

    Coral with wine

  15. أخال البرق من سامي

    محيّاها السني يسري

    I imagined lightning in her slim figure

    Her radiant complexion flowing beautifully

  16. ومن أنفاسها هبّت

    صبا الأسحار بالعطرِ

    And her breath blew

    The fragrant morning breeze

  17. فلي من قربها عهدٌ

    ألذُّ بهِ مدى الدهرِ

    With her nearness I have a pledge

    The sweetest in all time

  18. وقد أنزلتها مني

    مفيض النظم والنثرِ

    And I revealed my overflowing

    Poetry and prose for her

  19. ولو أنزلتها قلبي

    لذابت من لظى الجمرِ

    And if I revealed her to my heart

    It would melt from the flames

  20. مهاجر لحظها أضحى

    يواصلني بلا هجرِ

    Her glance that emigrated

    Keeps company with me, without estrangement

  21. سقى غيث الرضى عصراً

    مضى في جانب النهرِ

    The rain of pleasure watered an evening

    That passed by the bank of the river

  22. بروضٍ تحسد الأقما

    ر فيه طلعة الزهرِ

    In a meadow envied by meadows

    Where the flowers bloom

  23. تبسم زهره صبحاً

    يهادي أطيب النشر

    Its flowers smile in the morning

    Rivaling the most beautiful progeny

  24. لقد نثَرَ الربيعُ بهِ

    عقيقاً صيغ بالتبرِ

    Spring has scattered on it

    Carnelians formed into beads

  25. قضينا فيه أياماً

    فداها طيب العمرِ

    We spent days there

    May its beautiful life last!

  26. وأوطاراً فلم يبقى

    لنا منها سوى الذكرِ

    And occasions—but nothing remains for us

    Except the memory

  27. شممنا من حدائقه

    ثنا ذي المجد والقدرِ

    We smelled from its gardens

    Praise of the Glorious and Almighty

  28. بشير السعد ذي العليا

    سليل الأنجم الزهرِ

    Good news of joy—Bashir of high position

    Scion of the brilliant stars

  29. كريمٌ دأبهُ أخذ ال

    ثنا الموفور بالسبرِ

    A generous one whose habit is to take

    Abundant rewards with patience

  30. إذ جادت أياديهِ

    فحدّث عن ندى القطرِ

    When his hands give generously

    Speaking of the dew of rain

  31. ببدر الجود من كفيه

    يجلو ظلمة الفقرِ

    With the full moon of his palms

    He illuminates the darkness of poverty

  32. همام جنبلاطيٌّ

    روت كفّاه عن بحرِ

    The Jumblatts—his palms sufficed

    Instead of the sea

  33. لقد زانت محامدهُ

    قوافي النثر والشعرِ

    His praises adorned

    The rhymes of prose and poetry

  34. مجيدٌ أشرقت عدلاً

    سنا أخلاقه الغر

    Glorious—justice shone from him

    Illuminating his exemplary character

  35. له الهيجاءُ قد شهدت

    وكل غضنفرٍ حر

    Al-Hayjah witnessed for him

    And every strong-necked lion

  36. سل الأعداء كم أبدى

    لهم في حلبة الكر

    Ask the enemies—how often he showed

    Them in the battle arena

  37. وسلهم أن نضى سيفاً

    بمفني البيض والصفرِ

    Ask them when he brandished a sword

    At the annihilation of the whites and the yellows

  38. غدا سباقهم طعناً

    وحازوا السبق بالفرِ

    They raced to stab him

    And won the race by fleeing

  39. ترى أرواحهم ورداً

    لأواه الظبا البترِ

    You see their souls as roses

    For the mouths of the lionesses to cull

  40. فيقري الناس أطعمةً

    بلذات الهنا تجري

    While people feast on pleasures

    Flowing with the delights of tranquility

  41. وللأطيار أن سغبت

    بأجسام العدى يقري

    And the birds—if hungry—

    Feed on the bodies of the enemies

  42. سريٌّ حل من سامي

    المعالي رتبة الصدرِ

    Secretive—he arrived from the heights

    Of glories—the rank of chests

  43. كساه اللَه أثواب العلى

    والسؤدد الطهرِ

    God clothed him in the garments of exaltation

    And purity—the most righteous

  44. سنيٌّ زاده عزّاً

    ورشداً صالح الأمرِ

    Sunni—who increased honor

    And proper guidance—the best authority

  45. ألا يا أيها المولى

    البشير بطالع النصرِ

    O You, O Master

    Harbinger of the star of victory

  46. لبابك قد أتت تجلى

    فتاة المدح والشكرِ

    At Your door, a maiden came to shine

    The maiden of praise and thanks

  47. فتاةٌ من بنات العر

    ب قد لاحت من الفكرِ

    A maiden of the Arabic tribes who appeared

    With reason emanating from the mind

  48. سمت من مدحك الباهي

    بجيدٍ مشرق النحرِ

    She soared with Your brilliant praise

    With a neck radiating light

  49. عروس بالدعا وافت

    وقامت بالثنا تجري

    A bride of prayer came

    And stood with praise flowing

  50. فطوقها القبول لقد

    غدت تفترُّ عن درّ

    So the acceptance crowned her

    She almost burst from pearls

  51. ودم بالسعد ذا مصرٍ

    وذا عزٍّ مدى الدهرِ

    With blessings of joy—everlasting

    Glory and honor for all time
