قُلتُ لِلسائِقِ المُجِدِّ بِلَيلٍ
وَقَد اِعتَدَّ لِلفِراقِ الفَريقُ
I said to the driver, pressing on by night,
as the company made ready to part:
يا مُنادي الشَتاتِ أَرخَصتَ دَمعي
قالَ لي هَكَذا يُباعُ العَقيقُ
“O herald of dispersal, you have cheapened my tears!”
He said to me, “This is how carnelian is sold.”
