زَعَمتُم بِأَنَّ النوقَ وافٍ حَنينُها
فَما بالَها تسري وَقَلبي المُفَجَّعُ
You claimed the she-camels’ yearning was undiminished—
then why do they journey by night, while my heart lies grief-stricken?
وَقُلتُم حَمامَ الأَيكِ يُبدينَ دائِماً
فَما لي ندوبٌ وَالحَمائِمُ هُجَّعُ
And you said the doves of the grove forever reveal their longing—
then why do I bear scars, while the doves are fast asleep?
