Return to my heart the restlessness of escape
And tell the caravan where it journeyed
Forgive sleep for its aversion
If not for passion, aversion itself would not be known
O you who blame me for my ardent love of him
Leave me be, for I have glimpsed in him a fire
A gazelle of Kanaas, if that gazelle but knew of him
He would borrow the languid grace of his eyes
I loved him secretly, but when
My youthful passion overcame me I declared my love openly
I had a heart, but when he visited me
I gifted it to him in joyous welcome
Since the day he donned the garb of down on his cheek
I have doffed for him in love the garb
How sweet is death by the sword of his glance
Granted to me, though I sought no vengeance
