My apologies, but my heart has no excuse

For being infatuated with that charm

As dark as the night on a cheek

Glory to Him who made the dawn emerge from it

Oh heart, since pierced by the arrow of love

The arrows of his eyes, so where to flee?

Intoxicated by the charm of youth’s wine

Yet his lashes retain traces of kohl

How can I be saved from passionate love

That has encompassed my heart, surrounding it

Oh moon in my heart, you have become

    Minutes concealed even from soothsayers

Do not abandon me, you who

My passion flows towards, however it went

Oh companions, the gazelle of my fervor

Taught my sleep to flee from my eyelids

None but Sulayma legitimized shedding my blood

May Allah make Sulayma avenge it

    His glance shows me power

While his eyes glance at me submissively

    If his eyes met Haydar’s

His hand could not carry that sword

He who captures the minds of all people

With a glance of his cautious, cautious eyes

If the blamer knew my passion for him

He would come apologize to me

Woe to him from the love of a Hejazi girl

Whose fathers are the lofty, highborn people of Nizar

    The horizon would glow ruby

If it found itself on Sauda’s arm as a bracelet

The time for drinking wine has doubled

Oh for the regrets, the regrets, the regrets
