إن مُتّ وزارَ تُرْبَتي من أَهْوَى
لبَّيْتُ مناجِياً بغيرِ النَجْوَى
If I died and the one I love visited my grave’s dust,
I would rise again, communing without whispered speech.
في السر أقول يا تُرى ما صَنَعَتْ
ألحاظُكَ بي وليسَ هَذَا شَكْوَى
In secret I say, “I wonder what
your sidelong glances have done to me”—yet this is not my complaint.
