I placed my little beloved under the protection of the Lord of Mount Sinai,
I have placed my little beloved under the protection of the Lord of the Mount,
from the harm of whatever destiny may bring.
from the harm of all that comes to pass out of what is decreed.
I did not say “my little beloved” to belittle him;
I did not say "my little beloved" out of belittlement —
rather, a thing’s name is simply expressed in the diminutive.
rather, the name of a thing grows sweeter in the diminutive.
