The breeze wafted from Al-Zoraa
At dawn, reviving the living dead
It brought us the spirits of Najd, it's known fragrance
The air is perfumed with it everywhere
And related the stories of loved ones faithfully
Of generosity, nobility, and giving freely
I got drunk on the scent of its coolness
And my love spread through my aching soul
O rider of the camel litters, if you reach the beloved lands
Make haste if you pass through Al-Jorfaa
Looking to the right towards Al-Talaa Pass in Wadi Dharig
And to the left avoiding Al-Wasa gathering place
And when you reach the mounts of Sala, go straight
Between the two signs to Al-Lalaa then Al-Shathaa
And likewise from the two signs east of it
Go straight to the fine sands of Al-Faihaa
Give my greetings to that bending one with dark eyes
From a passionate distant lover living remotely
My sighs ascend with the departing pilgrims
My tears mingling with blood
O dwellers of Al-Bathaa, will there ever be a return
That brings me life, O dwellers of Al-Bathaa?
If my patience runs out, it is endless
My love of you is old, it knows no waning
If the tattoo fades, your memory in me
Will be watered by my streaming tears
Alas! Time is gone, and I have not won
Reunion with you, the object of my wishes
How can one who lives just two days
One day of meeting, one day of separation, hope for rest?
Your life, O people of Mecca, is a portion of my own
My heart has been burdened with cares for you
My love for you among people has become my way
Your passion is my religion and loyalty
O you who blame me for loving those
For whom I have sacrificed all I own!
Why not forbid this blame, when a man
Has known none but the noble and free?
If you but knew why I am distraught, you'd pardon me
Lower yourself to me, leave me my worries and woes
To my lodging on Sarh's plateau, then Shabaika's
Then Al-Thaniya's from the cliffs of Kadaa
To those living near the Holy House, dwelling
In those tents, visiting Al-Hathma's sands
To the young men of inviolable sanctuary, and the neighbors
Of protected neighborhood, my thoughts and cares turn
For they drew near, then were rude, connected, then severed
Betrayed and broke faith, abandoned me, were stingy to my needs
To them I turn for comfort, when medicine fails me
To them I flee, if enemies oppose me
They are in my heart, though far their homes
My passion and acceptance, though they rouse my rage
On their plains between their hills I circle
Around my zeal, never leaving their domain
Submitting, as we greet the Shrine's Black Stone
Signaling, when the ritual circles are done
Remembering my morning visits, staying up nights
On the dark, moonlit vigil nights
Though sickness lingered because of that place
No healing came until the malady passed
My life would flow even if the course of Masaileh Valley
Was reversed, to my heart's content with pebbles
Give joy, my brother, with news of those
Who camped on the plains, if you tend my loves
Bring it to my ears, for the soul finds rest
Though distant, when it hears good tidings
And if the pain hurts my brain
Let the herbs of the Hijaz be my remedy
Shall I turn away from the fresh roses where they bloom
And abandon it, though my life depends on its charm?
Its meadows have nurtured my heart, its spring
Has stirred and soothed my burning sorrows
Its mountains are my refuge, its sands
My pasture, its shade shelters me
Its valleys are my paradise, its arbors
My heavens, and on its plain lies my peace
Greet those dwellings and lush meadows
Watered by the Friend with His bounty
He gave drink to Mashair and Muhassab from Mina
Freely, and provided stops at elevated Anzaa
And in them the Exalted nurtured my devoted friends
I reveled with them in every valley of desire
And nurtured are the nights of Khayf that were only
A dream now gone with wakefulness forgotten
Alas for that bygone age and what it contained
Of our place's innocence, free of prying eyes
Days I frolicked freely on Muna's plains
Capering, trailing robes of love
How wondrous were the days that granted a man
Gifts, then took them back, refusing all bounty!
O is there any return to the life we lived,
One day, after which I'd be content to die?
Alas, hopes are dashed, the cords of wishfulness snapped,
My dream of reunion is dissolved and undone
It is enough torment to spend my nights
With longing before me, Fate behind
