عَلى واسِطٍ مِن رَبِّها أَلفُ لَعنَةٍ

وَتِسعَةُ آلافٍ عَلى أَهلِ واسِطِ

A thousand curses upon Wasit's people

And nine thousand upon Wasit's inhabitants

أَيُلتَمَسُ المُعروفُ مِن أَهلِ واسِطٍ

وَواسِطُ مَأوى كُلِّ عِلجٍ وَساقِطِ

Is kindness sought from Wasit's people?

Wasit is a refuge for every worthless and fallen one

نَبيطٌ وَأَعلاجٌ وَخُوزٌ تَجَمَّعوا

شِرارُ عِبادِ اللَهِ مِن كُلِّ غائِطِ

Nabit, A'laj and Khuz have gathered

The evilest of God's servants from every privy

وَإِنّي لَأَرجو أَن أَنالَ بِشَتمِهِم

مِنَ اللَهِ أَجراً مِثلَ أَجرِ المُرابِطِ

And I hope to earn from God by insulting them

A reward like the reward of one standing guard
