تَكَلَّفوا القَولَ وَالأَقوامُ قَد حَفَلوا

وَحَبَّروا خُطباً ناهيكَ بِالخُطبِ

They composed elaborately while the crowds were replete

And they scribed speeches while speeches abound

فَقامَ مُرتَجِلاً تَغلي بَداهَتُهُ

كَمِرجَلِ القَينِ لَمّا حَفَّ بِاللَهَبِ

So one stood improvising, his simplicity overflowing

Like a brazier with flames just about to flare

وَجانَبَ الراءَ لَم يَشعُر بِهِ أَحَدٌ

قَبلَ التَصَفُّحِ وَالإِغراقِ في الطَلَبِ

He dodged all affectation without anyone noticing
