ماءُ الصَبابَةِ نارُ الشَوقِ تَحدِرُهُ
فَهَل سَمِعتُم بِماءٍ فاضَ مِن نارِ
The fire of longing sends passion’s tears streaming down;
have you ever heard of water flowing forth from fire?
كَأَنَّ إِبريقَنا وَالقَطرُ في فَمِهِ
طَيرٌ تَناوَلَ ياقوتاً بِمِنقارِ
Our ewer, with the drop poised at its mouth, seems
a bird that has taken a ruby in its beak.
