رُبَّما يَثقُلُ الجَليسُ وَإِن كا
نَ خَفيفاً في كِفَّةِ الميزانِ
A companion may weigh heavily, even though he may
be light in the scale-pan of the balance.
وَلَقَد قُلتُ إِذ أَطَلَّ عَلى القَو
مِ ثَقيلٌ يُربي عَلى ثَهلانِ
Indeed I said, when there appeared before
the people a heavy fellow, outweighing Thahlan:
كَيفَ لا تَحمِلُ الأَمانَةَ أَرضٌ
حَمَلَت فَوقَها أَبا سُفيانِ
How could the earth not bear the trust,
when it has borne Abu Sufyan upon it?
