وَلِنافِعٍ فَضلٌ عَلى أَكفائِهِ

إِنَّ الكَريمَ أَحَقُّ بِالتَفضيلِ

The virtuous outrank their peers of equal worth,

For the noble merit being singled out.

يا نافِعَ الشِبراتِ حينَ تَناوحَت

هوجُ الرِياحِ وَأُعقِبَت بِوُبولِ

O Nafee the auspicious, when gales did roar

And rains poured heavily from above,

أَشبَهتَ عُقبَةَ غَيرَ ما مُتَشَبِّهٍ

وَنَشأتَ في حِلمٍ وَحُسنِ قَبول

You resembled no other in your calm poise

And wise acceptance did you prove.

وَوَليتَ فينا أَشهُراً فَكَفَيتَنا

عَنَتَ المُريبِ وَسَلَّةَ التَضليلِ

Months with us you spent, and from error freed us,

Of doubt and misguidance did remove.

تُدعى هِلالاً في الزَمانِ وَنافِعاً

وَالسَلمَ نِعمَ أُبُوَّةُ المَأمولِ

Hilal they call you, and Nafee in this age,

And peace what a hopeful sire does behove!
