1. وَكَيفَ يَخِفُّ لي بَصَري وَسَمعي

    وَحَولي عَسكَرانِ مِن الثِقالِ

    How can my sight and hearing be concealed from me

    When around me are two hosts of burdensome men,

  2. قُعوداً حَولَ دَسكَرَتي وَعِندي

    كَأَنَّ لَهُم عَلَيَّ فُضولَ مالِ

    Sitting around my household, and with me,

    As if they had some rightful claim upon me.

  3. إِذا ما شِئتُ صَبَّحَني هِلالٌ

    وَأَيٌّ الناسِ أَثقَلُ مِن هِلالِ

    Whenever I please, the crescent moon salutes me,

    Yet which of men is more burdensome than the crescent?
