  1. أَلا يا صَنَمَ الأَززدِ

    الَّذي يَدعونَهُ رَبّا

    Oh idol of Al-Azd

    Whom they call their lord

  2. سُقيتَ العَذبَ مِن وِدّي

    وَإِن لَم تَسقِني عَذبا

    You were given fresh water to drink from the valley

    And if you did not give me fresh water to drink

  3. أَراني بِكَ مَكروباً

    وَلا تَكشِفُ لي كَربا

    You see me distressed because of you

    And you do not relieve my distress

  4. أَلا تَرزُقُني مِنكَ

    سُلُوَّ القَلبِ أَو قُربا

    Oh why don't you provide me

    Solace of heart or nearness

  5. فَإِنَّ الشَوقَ يَدعوني

    وَإِنّي مَيِّتٌ حُبّا

    For yearning calls me

    And I am dying of love

  6. إِذا ما ذَكَرَتكَ العَي

    نُ لَم تَملِك لَها غَربا

    Whenever my eye remembers you

    It cannot control its tears

  7. كَأَنّي بِكَ مَطبوبٌ

    وَما أَحدَثتَ لي طَبّا

    As if I am afflicted because of you

    And you have not caused me any remedy

  8. وَلَكِن حُبُّكَ الداخِ

    لُ في الأَحشاءِ قَد دَبّا

    But your love inside me

    Has crept into my entrails

  9. أَفي شَوقٍ تُرى جِسمي

    صَبَبتَ الهَمَّ لي صَبّا

    Did you see my body melting

    With passion that poured sorrow abundantly over me

  10. وَهَبني كُنتُ أَذنَبتُ

    أَما تَغفُرُ لي ذَنبا

    And if I sinned, forgive me

    Won't you forgive my sin?

  11. تَرَكتَ القَلبَ قَد ماتَ

    وَما أَبقَيتَ لي لُبّا

    You left my heart dead

    And nothing of it remains for me

  12. أَبيتُ اللَيلَ مَحزوناً

    وَأَغدو هائِماً صَبّا

    I spent the night sorrowful

    And rose up confused in the morning

  13. كَذي الوَسواسِ لا يُعتِ

    بُ مَن عاتَبَ أَو سَبّا

    Like one possessed with no sense

    Whether he blames or curses

  14. وَطِفلُ الحُبِّ أَضناني

    فَوَيلٌ لي إِذا شَبّا

    And the child of love weakened me

    So woe to me if he grows up

  15. فَإِنّي لَيسَ لي قَلبٌ

    وَإِن كُنتَ تَرى قَلبا

    For I have no heart

    Even if you see a heart

  16. كَذا نُمسي وَما يُمسي

    لَنا سِلماً وَلا حَربا

    Thus we spend our evenings without

    Peace or war between us

  17. فَحَدِّثني بِما أَدعو

    كَ طولَ اللَيلِ مُنكَبّا

    So talk to me, of what I pray to you

    All night long with bent stature

  18. أَتَشفيني مِنَ الأَسقا

    مِ أَم تورِدُني نَحبا

    Will you quench me from thirst

    Or make me drink bitterness?

  19. فَإِنَّ المَوتَ قَد طابَ

    لَمَن أَورَدتَهُ جَدبا

    For death is sweet

    For whom you make drink from barrenness

  20. يُلَبّي قِبلَةَ الأَزدِ

    وَلَولا أَنتَ ما لَبّى

    It obeys the kiss of Al-Azd

    And if not for you, it would not have obeyed
