وَلَمّا اِلتَقَينا بِالخُبَيبَةِ غَرَّني

بِمَعروفِهِ حَتّى خَرَجتُ أَفوقُ

When we met the beloved, her charm so captivated me

That I was raised above all else, to the sublime heights

حَباني بِعَبدٍ قَعسَرِيٍّ وَقَينَةٍ

وَوَشيٍ وَآلافٍ لَهُنَّ بَريقُ

She gifted me a slave from Qays, and Qaina

As well as Washya and thousands more, shining brightly

فَقُل لِيَزيدٍ يَلعَصِ الشَهدَ خالياً

لَنا دونَهُ عِندَ الخَليفَةِ سوقُ

Say to Yazid, who tastes honey in solitude:

We have, without him, a thriving market near the Caliph

رَقَدتَ فَنَم يا اِبنَ الخَبيثَةِ إِنَّها

مَكارِمُ لا يَسطيعُهُنَّ لَصيقُ

You have slept, so sleep on, o son of an evil woman!

For these are acts of nobility, beyond the grasp of a thief

أَبى لَكَ عِرقٌ مِن فُلانَةَ أَن تُرى

جَواداً وَرَأسٌ حَيثُ شِبتَ حَليقُ

A lineage of excellence refused you, though you wished

To be called generous, while your head remained shaved
