لَيسَ النَعيمُ وَإِن كُنّا نُزَنُّ بِهِ

لَيسَ النَعيمُ وَإِن كُنّا نُزَنُّ بِهِ

إِلّا نَعيمَ سُهَيلٍ ثُمَّ حَمّادِ

إِلّا نَعيمَ سُهَيلٍ ثُمَّ حَمّادِ

There is no bliss—though we are thought to enjoy it—

The joy we feel is not true joy,

Except the bliss of Suhayl, and then Hammad.

It is but the joy of Suhail and Hammad.

ناكا وَنيكا إِلى أَن حَلَّ شَيبُهُما

ناكا وَنيكا إِلى أَن حَلَّ شَيبُهُما

في غَفلَةٍ عَن نَبِيِّ الرَحمَةِ الهادي

في غَفلَةٍ عَن نَبِيِّ الرَحمَةِ الهادي

They both fucked and were fucked until their hair turned gray,

Living in ignorance, until their hair turned grey,

Heedless of the Prophet of mercy, the guide.

Oblivious of the Prophet, the merciful guide.

فَهدَينِ طَوراً وَفَهّادَينِ آوِنَةً

فَهدَينِ طَوراً وَفَهّادَينِ آوِنَةً

ما كانَ قَبلَهُما فَهدٌ بِفَهّادِ

ما كانَ قَبلَهُما فَهدٌ بِفَهّادِ

Two cheetahs sometimes, and at other times two cheetah-handlers;

So he guided them for a while, and enlightened them,

Before them, no cheetah had ever been a cheetah-handler.

As none were guided before them, nor enlightened.

ما العَيشُ إِلّا لِحَمّادٍ أَبي عُمَرٍ

ما العَيشُ إِلّا لِحَمّادٍ أَبي عُمَرٍ

لَم يَدرِ أَنَّ لَهُ رَبّاً بِمِرصادِ

لَم يَدرِ أَنَّ لَهُ رَبّاً بِمِرصادِ

Life is for none but Hammad, Abu Umar,

Life is only for Hammad, Abu Umar,

Who did not know that he had a Lord lying in wait.

Who knew not that his Lord lies in wait for him.
