إِنّي لأَكتُمُ في الحَشا حُبّاً لَها
لَو كانَ أَصبَحَ فَوقَها لَأَظَلَّها
I indeed conceal within my breast a love for her;
I conceal in my heart a love for her
Were it above her in the morning, it would shade her.
If dawn rose above her, I would shade her
وَيَبيتُ بَينَ جَوانِحي وَجدٌ بِها
لَو باتَ تَحتَ فِراشِها لَأَقَلَّها
And longing for her spends the night between my ribs;
And yearning for her spends the night in my innermost being
Were it to spend the night beneath her bedding, it would lift her up.
If it slept beneath her bed, I would disturb it
