وَدَعاني مَعشَرٌ كُلُّهُمُ
حُمُقٌ دامَ لَهُم ذاكَ الحُمُق
And a group summoned me, all of them
A group of fools invited me
fools—may that folly stay with them.
As long as that foolishness prevails
لَيسَ مِن جُرمٍ وَلَكِن غاظَهُم
شَرَفي العارِضُ قَد سَدَّ الأُفُق
Not for any wrongdoing; rather, they were angered by
It was not a sin, but my temporary glory
my honor—a looming cloud that has blocked the horizon.
Has eclipsed their limited horizons
