1. لَمَّا تقَلْقَلَتِ الرُّكبانُ ساريَةً

    حَدا القُلُوبَ مع الرُّكبانِ حَاديها

    When the caravans swayed away

    The hearts raced with the caravans leading them

  2. ثَنى عَزائمَها وجدٌ أَضَرَّ بها

    لا واخَذَ اللهُ أَسْما في تَثَنِّيها

    Determination turned away and passion harmed it

    By God, it stumbled in its turning

  3. هزَّتْ بِنا العِيسُ حتَّى طارَ طائِرُها

    شوقاً وقد جَذَبَتْنا في تجَنِّيها

    The longing shook us until its bird flew

    Yearning, as it pulled us into its twisting

  4. بُعَيْدَ أسْما لنا حِبٌّ نَموتُ به

    فخَلِّ أَسْما تُوَفِّي جُهْدَها تِيهَا

    The loved one is far; we die of love for him

    Empty the effort of the one who loses its way longing

  5. لو أنَّهُ رَمْشةً أعطى نَواظِرنا

    بُروزَ طالعةٍ غَرَّاءَ نَبْغيها

    If only he would give our sights

    The emergence of a radiant ascent we desire

  6. وشَتَّ فينا بألبابٍ مُمزَّقَةٍ

    أجْزاؤُها لَوعةُ الهِجرانِ تُفْنيها

    And it shredded within us torn hearts

    Whose parts are agonized and destroyed by separation

  7. وقالَ هلْ تُبْذَلُ الأرواحُ راضيةً

    منكمْ على نَظرَةٍ بيضاءَ أُبْديها

    And he said, “Are souls offered willingly

    For a single glance I unveil?”

  8. لَقالَ قائِلُنا خُذ كلَّ جارحةٍ

    لنا والْحَقْ بها الدُّنيا وما فيها

    Our speaker would say, “Take every limb

    For we own the life and what is in it”

  9. واسْمَحْ بِرَمشَةِ عينٍ نَجْتَلي نَظَراً

    لِطَلْعَتهٍ منكَ قد جَلَّتْ مَعانيها

    And allow the eyelash to gain a glance

    At his appearance which has glorious meanings

  10. يا مُسْدِلَ البُرْدِ في مجْلى جَلالَتِهِ

    عنهُ حِجاباً ولم تُكْشَفْ حَواشيها

    O you who lowered the veil in the majesty of his abode

    A screen from him and its edges undiscovered

  11. قد زَجَّ بالنُّورِ والتَّقْديسِ ظاهرُها

    وعَجَّ بالمَدَدِ الفَيَّاضِ خافيها

    Its essence imbued with light and sanctity

    And its hidden overwhelmed with abundant flow

  12. وطَبَّقَ الأُفقَ فُرْساناً مُعَرْبِدَةً

    سُلْطانُها وأرَجَّ الكَوْنَ واليها

    It overpowered the horizon with heavily armed horsemen

    Its sultanate shook the universe turning it to him

  13. وأقْعَدَ القَوْمَ قَسْراً قَهْرُ حاكِمِها

    وقَيَّدَ الكُلَّ منهُمْ في دَعاويها

    And made the people sit forcibly by his ruler’s conquest

    And tied them all in his causes

  14. بُحْبوحَةٌ عَظُمَتْ شأناً وقد كَبُرَتْ

    قدْراً وحاضرُها سامٍ وباديها

    An abundant and mighty place of pride

    Great in esteem with its present and absent

  15. حَظيرَةٌ طَفَحَتْ بالعِزِّ مائِجَةً

    مُلوكُ أهلِ المَعالي من مَواليها

    An enclosure overflowing with glory and kings

    The masters of glory are from its loyal ones

  16. ضَلَّتْ عَصائِبُ أهلِ الكَوْنِ في عَمَهٍ

    لولا الإشاراتُ من مِقْباسِ هاديها

    The brave ones of the people went astray in blindness

    If not for the signs from its guiding scale

  17. تلكَ الحَضائرُ لو تَبْدو حَقائِقُها

    لَحارَ كُلُّ لَبيبٍ حاذِقٍ فيها

    If the realities of those citadels appeared

    Every perceptive and wise one would be confused

  18. الأنْبِياءُ صُدورُ الكَونِ سادَتُهُ

    والأوْلياءُ بألبابٍ تُناجيها

    The prophets are the hearts of the world and its masters

    And the saints whisper to them with wisdom

  19. لها قُلوبُ أُولي الأسرارِ قد رُفِعَتْ

    بِجَذْبَةٍ تَدَلَّى من مَعاليها

    To it are raised the hearts of the knower of secrets

    By an attraction dangling from its sublimities

  20. رُموزُ فَنِّ الخَفايا حَيْثُما اتُّبِعَتْ

    سَرائِرٌ تَتَبَدَّى من مَعانيها

    Symbols of the art of mysteries wherever followed

    Secrets appear from its meanings

  21. تلكَ الرِّواياتُ أهلُ اللهِ تَعْرِفُها

    وإنَّ جبريلَ روحَ الوَحْيِ راويها

    The saints know those narrations

    And Gabriel, the spirit of revelation, narrates them

  22. بِطاحُ حَيٍّ بهِ شَمسُ النُّبُوَّةِ قد

    لاحَتْ وأحْمَدٌ الجَبَّارُ حاميها

    The sun of prophecy shone in the horizon of the living one

    And Ahmed the Compeller protects it

  23. رِسالَةٌ بِصُنوفِ العالَمينَ سَرَتْ

    قَضَتْ على الناسِ قاصيها ودانيها

    A message that covered both worlds

    Fulfilling all far and near

  24. لا أبْعَدَ اللهُ قَلبي عن مَحاضِرِها

    لا زَحْزَحَ اللهُ روحي عن مَغانيها

    May God not distance my heart from its settings

    Nor detach my soul from its melodies

  25. سَريرَةُ الشَّوقِ في سِرِّ المُهامِ سَرَتْ

    سَفينَةٌ هيَ بسم اللهِ مَجْريها

    The secret of passion flowed in dangerous anonymity

    A ship guided by “in the name of God” steering it

  26. شَبَّتْ بها لَوْعَةٌ بالقَلْبِ فاعِلَةٌ

    لا يَسْتَطيعُ انْفِكاكاً عن دَواعيها

    In it grew a painful yearning in the heart

    Incapable of resisting its causes

  27. من أينََ للرُّوحِ مَرْقًى تَسْتَقِرُّ به

    من بعد أسْفارِها في ظِلِّ واديها

    From where can the soul ascend to rest

    After its journey in the shadow of its valley?

  28. حَواضِرُ المَلإِ الأعْلى مُرَفْرِفَةٌ

    إلى القِيامَةِ جَهْراً في بَواديها

    The celestial presences flutter

    Publicly in its plains until the resurrection

  29. فَأشْرَفُ الحَضَراتِ البيضِ حَضْرَتُها

    وخَيرُ نادٍ بِمُلْكِ اللهِ ناديها

    The most noble of the white presences is his

    And the best companion is the one in God’s possession

  30. حَظائِرُ القُدْسِ مُلْقاةٌ مَقالِدها

    بِبابِها الكُلُّ صاديها وغاديها

    The enclosures of holiness cast their necklaces

    All passing by its door, entering and leaving

  31. بِقُبَّةٍ طافَ في أعْتابِها زُمَرٌ

    منَ المَلائِكِ إعْظاماً تُحَيِّيها

    Above the fluttering concern of the Throne’s carriers

    Is its dome which purity inhabits and God constructed

  32. من فَوْقِ رَفْرافِ هامِ العَرْشِ عِمَّتُها

    فالطُّهْرُ ساكِنُها واللهُ بانيها

    The fragrance of the holy musk never ceases to spread

    From the secret of precious qualities in its horizons

  33. لا زالَ فُرْقانُ مِسْكِ القُدسِ يُنْشَرُ من

    عَبيرِ سِرِّ المَثاني في مَجاليها

    Manifesting prayers as Muhammad, its beloved, accepts

    For its essence from the Blessed One’s grace

  34. يُبْدي الصَّلاةَ كما يَرضى مُحَمَّدُها

    لِذاتهِ شَرَفاً من فَضْلِ باريها

    And a thousand thousand eternal greetings

    Public and private with salutations

  35. وألْفَ ألْفِ سَلامٍ لا انْقِضاءَ لهُ

    مع التَّحِيَّاتِ باديها وخافيها

    Translating the passion from a devotee for his master

    From the essence of a soul which met its ultimate wishes

  36. تُتَرْجِمُ الشَّوْقَ من عَبدٍ لِسُدَّتِهِ

    من طَوْرِ روحٍ غَدا أقْصى أمانيها

    Until there appears to it from his dome’s perspective

    A full moon to finish it and give it life

  37. حتَّى يَلوحَ لها من طَورِ قُبَّتهِ

    سَطَّاعُ بَدْرٍ فَيُفْنيها ويُحْييها
