1. غَرامي عن ضَميري تَرْجُماني

    ووجدي قد يَنوبُ عن البَيَانِ

    My passion translates my conscience,

    And my love can replace eloquence.

  2. وكم حالٍ يُترجِمُهُ سُكوتٌ

    يؤدِّي فيه منطوقَ اللِّسَانِ

    How many states are translated by silence,

    Which conveys the utterances of the tongue.

  3. تناهَبَني السِّقامُ وذُبْتُ لهفاً

    فلو حدَّقْتَ عينَكَ لن ترَانِي

    Illness has assaulted me, and I have wasted away in yearning.

    If you look closely, you will not see me.

  4. كأنِّي ميِّتٌ في ثوبِ حيٍّ

    ولا أدْري بطَوْرِيَ ما دَهَانِي

    I am like a dead man in the garb of the living,

    And I know not in what state I find myself.

  5. على جمرِ الغَضا منِّي فُؤادٌ

    عَليلٌ لا تُعَلِّلُهُ الأَغَانِي

    My heart burns with jealousy.

    It is sick, not comforted by songs.

  6. وليلَةَ سارَ فينا الرُّكْبُ صُبْحاً

    إلى بَطْحاءِ واسِطَ والمَغَانِي

    And the night the caravan travelled until morning

    To the meadows of Wasit and revelry.

  7. ورُحْما بالعِراقِ نُخِبُّ خَيْلاً

    تُنَهَّزُ بالمَثالِثِ والمَثَانِي

    And I bid farewell to Iraq where we chose the best horses

    That race in threes and eights.

  8. وكانت في العِراقِ لنا ليالٍ

    سرَقْناهُنَّ من جَيْبِ الزَّمَانِ

    And we had nights in Iraq

    That we stole from the pocket of time.

  9. وأُمُّ عُبَيْدَةٍ تُفدى برُوحي

    وجُسْماني ومُنْعَقَدِ الجَنَانِ

    And for Ubaydah’s mother I would sacrifice my soul,

    My body, and my gathered self.

  10. أموتُ لأَجلِ ساكِنِها وأحْيَ

    خَليلَيَّ الوَداعَ وقابِلاني

    I die for the one who dwells there, and I live

    To bid farewell, my friends, and meet me.

  11. ولا تَسْتَنْشِدانيَ عن شُؤُني

    فما شأني برَمْشِ العَيْنِ شَانِي

    Do not ask me of my affairs,

    For my affairs are not of the wink of an eye.

  12. وَلوهٌ مُسْتَهامٌ ذو حَنينٍ

    تمكَّنَ من فُؤادِيَ بل حَناني

    I am possessed by a burning, yearning love

    That has taken hold of my heart and even my tenderness.

  13. ولمْ لا وهو من مَلأَ البَرايا

    هُدًى وبه اسْتَنارَ المَشْرِقَانِ

    Why not, when it fills the wilds

    With guidance, and by it the horizons shine.

  14. أَبو العَلَمَيْنِ جاذِبَةُ التَّجَلِّي

    سَليلُ المُصْطَفى غوْثُ الزَّمَانِ

    Abu al-Alamein, attractor of manifestations,

    Descendant of Mustafa, succor of the age.

  15. إمامُ ِّولِيا حيًّا ومَيْتاً

    وصدرُ كِبارِهِمْ في كلِّ آنِ

    Leader of saints, living and dead,

    And the foremost of all in every moment.

  16. طَويلُ الباعِ سيِّدُ كلِّ قطبٍ

    هِزَبْرُ القَوْمِ من إنْسٍ وجَانِ

    Of long standing, master of every pole,

    Axis of both mankind and jinn.

  17. ترقَّى في قمَمِ المَعالي

    وجازَ غُبارُهُ خامَ المُدَانِي

    You climbed to the peaks of glory

    And your dust transcended the sand dunes.

  18. أَيَصْرَعُني الزَّمانُ ولي عِنانٌ

    بحبلِ جَنابِهِ سامي العِنَانِ

    Will time fell me when I have the reins

    By the rope of his noble rein?

  19. وقد قالَ الرَّسولُ ائْمَنْ جَناباً

    فمن بضَمانِ أَحمدَ في ضَمَانِي

    The Messenger said, "Trust in the Master's protection,"

    So whoever is under Ahmad's guarantee is under my protection.

  20. وأَلْبَسَني هُناكَ ثِيابَ عِزٍّ

    وحكَّمَني على أَهلِ الأوَانِ

    And there he dressed me in robes of honor

    And appointed me over the people of all eras.

  21. وقالَ لسيِّدي الغَوْثُ الرِّفاعِيِّ

    تولَّ الشَّأنَ منهُ بِلا تَوَانِ

    And my master al-Rifaa'i said to me,

    "Take charge of the matter without delay."

  22. فقرَّبَني لهُ وأَعَزَّ أَمْري

    ومن كاساتِ حَضْرَتِهِ سَقَانِي

    So he brought me close and honored my affairs,

    And let me drink from his chalices.

  23. فغِبْتُ عن الوُجودِ وغِبْتُ عنِّي

    وعن كَمْني وعن معْنى كَيَانِي

    So I was absent from existence and absent from myself,

    And from my veil and the meaning of my being.

  24. وهذا الشَّأنُ من طيٍّ ونَشْرٍ

    نَسيجٌ في التَّدَلِّي والتَّدَانِي

    This matter, of folding and unfolding,

    Is a fabric of lowering and rising.

  25. رُموزٌ للمُؤمِّلِ ظاهِراتٌ

    جَلاها صاحِبُ السَّبْعِ المَثَانِي

    Symbols for the hopeful, manifestations

    Revealed by the Master of the Seven Odes.

  26. تذكَّرْ يا هَداكَ اللهُ طَوْراً

    إلى الهادي بحُجْرَةِ أُمِّ هَانِي

    Remember, may God guide you, a state

    In the chamber of Umm Hani with the Guide.

  27. ومزِّقْ كلَّ دِرعٍ أَنْتَ فيه

    وسَلِّمْ للكَريمِ المُسْتَعَانِ

    And tear apart every coat you are wearing

    And submit to the Bountiful, the Helper.

  28. فما فوقَ التُّرابِ يَعودُ فيه

    وباقي الأَمْرِ لمْ يُبْذَلْ لفَانِ

    For what is above dust returns to it

    While the rest of the matter was not given to anyone vain.
