1. أبكي وبدري بالجمال توارى

    وتأوُّهي ملأ الفجاج أوارا

    I weep, and my moonlight of beauty has vanished,

    And my sighs have filled the empty spaces.

  2. كسفينةٍ في بطن بحرٍ قد جرت

    وفؤادها للسير يلهب نارا

    Like a ship in the belly of a raging sea,

    Whose heart burns to travel on.

  3. سربي لسرب حبيب قلبي مسرعاً

    يا جمر وجدي واقطع الأقطارا

    My caravan hastens to the caravan of my beloved's heart,

    O embers of my passion, blaze through the lands!

  4. دربي بدربك نحو دار متيَّمي

    إن كنت توصل ربَّ درب دارا

    My path beside your path to my yearning home,

    If you can take me to the Lord of the house.

  5. ولأنت يا قلبي اتَّئد ما أنت أ

    وَّلُ قلب مولوه لحبٍّ طارا

    And you, my heart, settle down and cease your burning love,

    And be patient with your absent beloved, perhaps

  6. واصبر على هجر الحبيب فربَّما

    دار الزمان فبدَّل الآثارا

    The wheel of fate will change its traces.

    Make righteous patience your friend through the days,

  7. واجعل مع الأيام صبراً صالحاً

    فالصبر سرٌّ يظهر الأسرارا

    For patience reveals mysteries.

    Beware of despair, O my heart, for they

  8. إياك يا قلب القنوط فإنَّها

    أقدار ربي تكشف الأقدارا

    Are my Lord's decrees revealing destinies.

    Think good thoughts of your Creator, for time and again,

  9. أحسن ببارئك الظنون فكم وكم

    في رمش طرفٍ يسَّر الإعسارا

    In the blink of an eye, He relieves distress.

    And how many a drowning soul in raging waves

  10. ولكم أغاث غريق لجٍّ صارخاً

    أخذته أمواجُ فارح وحارا

    Crying out, He has saved from death's grasp!

    And how many a man lamenting fate's cruel bite

  11. ولكم حمى من ندبة العضب امرءاً

    صبراً رأى الموت المريع مرارا

    He has soothed with patience that tames death's bitterness.

    The signs of His power and the purity of His affairs

  12. آيات قدرته وبيض شؤنه

    بجلالا كم حيَّر الأفكارا

    Have confounded thoughts with their majesty.

    O you who at dawn rose in anger like turbulent waves

  13. يا من غدا ضبا بثائر لجَّةٍ

    أو سمكةً راحت تفوح قفارا

    Or a great fish roaming the desert!

    Rely on Him when the days show their colors,

  14. عول عليه إذا الزمان تلوَّنت

    ألونه وملحُّ خطبٍ جارا

    And the salt of events pours forth.

    Return to Him with a sincere heart.

  15. وارجع إليه بعزم قلبٍ خالصٍ

    محق الوجود وشامه القهارا

    He destroys and creates all that exists.

    Stretch out your palms to Him and come as a suppliant,

  16. وابسط له كفيك وابرز داعياً

    لا ترتجى من غيره استظهارا

    Do not hope for help from another.

    Take the Prophet as your intercessor, for he

  17. وخذ النبيَّ وسيلةً فهو الذي

    أبداه في طيِّ العما مختارا

    Is the Chosen One, shining among the watchmen.

    The fount of knowledge, the proof and wisdom,

  18. علم الرسالة منبع البرهان وال

    عرفان أجلى المرسلين منارا

    The most illustrious of Messengers, a guiding star.

    The ascension of souls to their Lord,

  19. معراج أرواح الرجال لربها

    بلغت به في سيرها الأوطارا

    His journey took him through the celestial spheres.

    The system of the intricacies of the Furqan,

  20. معنى نظام دقائق الفرقان في

    تفسيره يطوي به الأخبارا

    His exegesis contains all tidings.

    With a single dot of his composition he makes clear

  21. يجلو بنقطة نظمه من علمه

    بحراً بنكتة فهمه زخارا

    An ocean; with one hint of his insight a shower.

    The Sultan of the line of Prophets and their guide and mentor,

  22. سلطان صفِّ الأنبياء ورأسهم

    وهزبرهم عن عجُّ كربٍ ثارا

    Protecting them from the madness of tribulations.

    So seek refuge in Him, He will mend a rebellious heart;

  23. فالجأ إليه يربط قلبٍ إن بغى

    باغٍ وربُّك يخلق الأنصارا

    And your Lord creates protectors.

    This eminent man in the sight of God,

  24. هذا الوجيه الوجه عند الله بل

    هذا الذي للغوث قام مدارا

    This one who rose to help all who called.

    His Master gave him the gift of intercession

  25. اعطاه مولاه الإغاثة مثل ما

    في الشمس قد نسج الضياء نهارا

    As He wove sunlight into the day.

    Sufficient for me is your station, O Muhammad,

  26. حسبي بجاهك يا محمَّد إن عتى

    دهري وصرت لظل بابك جارا

    If my fate rebels and I dwell in your shade.

    I have alighted with my mounts in your sanctuary, hoping

  27. وحططت رحلي في رحابك علَّ أن

    أمحو بحرمةِ جاهك الأوزارا

    Through your eminence to erase my sins.

    For God displayed you in His Kingdom

  28. فالله قد أبداك في ملكوته

    لدجى المعائب ماحياً ستارا

    To veil disgrace and erase all shame.

    And He established in you relief for every broken heart,

  29. وأقام منك لكلِّ كسرٍ مقلقٍ

    مدداً بنفحة وهبه جبارا

    Succor with a breath of His gift, the Almighty.

    May God bless you, O pillar of guidance,

  30. صلى عليك الله يا علم الهدى

    ما ركب قومٍ للمدينة سارا

    As long as riders journey to Madinah.

    And your family and your companions, the primeval blossoms,

  31. وعلى بنيك وصحبك الزهر الأولى

    ما الطلُّ نمنم رشُّه الأزهارا

    As long as the dripping of dew nurtures flowers.

    And those who follow them, as long as a guide

  32. والتابعين وتابعيهم ما حدى

    بك سائقٌ فدعا القفول حيارى

    Calls to people lost in the valley.
