The camels marched on through the night
Between al-Aqeeq and Rammah
And each person pursued
What he intended and desired
Passion overwhelmed us
Piercing our hearts with its arrows
The guide lost his way out of love
O he who relieves those in passion’s agony!
The caravan trembled, crazed with yearning
At the gurgling of its leather waterskin,
As if the slopes of my love
Were a drinking spot for men!
My eyes glanced sidelong with languor
At a cup he filled to overflowing
Alas, when we parted
The Day of Judgment seemed nigh!
Tears poured like the rain of al-Ghadaa
Commingling their flow within us
Weeping, by my life,
Is a sign of the lover’s passion
So let him who will, weep from anguish
No blame to him in that!
How often has love’s rain poured from me
Bowing my head to the ground
The caravan moves furtively on
Like lightning through the clouds’ gloom
And we are all overwhelmed
By a passion that kindles our breath
Until we come to abide
In the House of Joy and Honor
The beloved gazed upon us
When he saw his tent close by
And in acceptance we reached
Safety - greet us with peace!
