هو الوَجْدُ لا شيلٌ هُناكَ ولا حَطُّ

ولا الحزبُ يُغْني حينَ يَعْدو ولا الرَّهْطُ

It is passion, neither burden there, nor luggage,

Neither partisanship avails when it runs, nor company of friends,

أقامَ بهِ أَهْلَ الهَوى حَرُّ جَمْرهِ

وأقْعَدَهُمْ والوَجْدُ حَيَّاتُهُ رُقْطُ

The people of passion established its burning ember,

And it made them sit while passion is their carpet,

لهُ في قُلوبِ العاشِقينَ فَعائِلٌ

لَعَمْرُكَ لم تَنْسُجْ كَمِنْوالِها الخِطُّ

It has in the hearts of lovers families,

By your life, the writing has not woven its like ever,

ومن قائِلٍ فَرْطُ الهَوى قد أضَرَّني

وهل للهَوى في زَعمِ أصحابِهِ فَرطُ

And whoever says the excess of passion harmed me,

Does passion according to its lovers' allegation have any excess?

عَجائِبُ ألفاظٍ حَكى الشَّوقُ بَعْضُها

وحارَ بها القُرَّاءُ وانْعَجَمَ الخَطُّ

Wonders of wordings which longing related some of them,

And the readers were confused by it and the writing was foreignized,

وحَقِّكُمُ يا من بِكُم مِتُّ لَوْعةً

على عَهْدِكُمْ لم أنْسَكُم أبَداً قَطُّ

By your right, O you for whom I die of agony,

Since your time, I never forgot you, never.
