When lightning flashed
And shone in the sky
It stirred the stillness of passion
Nay, it pained my heart
As if it rose over
The tower of my heart
Or it was an arrow that fell
Upon the forelock of my heart
It represented to me the waist of him
For whom I melt with passion
A heart broke by sorrows
That scattered what was once joined
By God, from a sigh that crept
And a tear that streamed
I sacrificed my soul for a gazelle
That grazed upon my heart
Whenever I sought his nearness
Even if he refused, asleep
I am a slave of his door
If he returns or wanders
And I have no means
With his highness that can be claimed
Nor any task that can be seen
Except praise and prayer
