مَنْ لِجِسْمٍ من لَوعةِ الهَجرِ بالي

نَظَّمَتْهُ البَلْوى بِسِلْكِ الخَيالِ

For a body worn by the agony of separation

Imagination has adorned it with threads of fantasy

وفُؤادٍ مُذْ زَمْزَمَ الرَّكْبُ لَيْلاً

طارَ وَجداً فَحارَ بينَ الجِمالِ

And a heart that since the caravan departed at night

Has flown with passion and burned among the beauties

ودُموعٍ كالسُّحْبِ تَهْدُرُ لَهْفاً

باتِّصالٍ مُجَلْجَلٍ وتَوالِ

And tears that pour heavily like clouds

In continuous turmoil and succession

مَنْ لِسِرٍّ من غيرِ حُبِّيكَ خالٍ

يا حَبيبي وفِكرةٍ بانْذِهالِ

For a secret devoid of your love

My darling, and a notion in swoon

سانِحاتُ البِعادِ تلكَ وكَمْ في ال

بُعْدِ من ناهِضاتِ هَمٍّ ثِقالِ

The hardships of separation, how many they are

In the distance from the burdens of heavy care

قد رَأيْناكَ بالفُؤادِ ويُدْرى

مثلِ نَصِّ المَقالِ رَمزُ الحالِ

We saw you in the heart and it is known

Like the text of speech, the symbol of the case

وشَهِدْناكَ من مَكانٍ بَعيدٍ

عِندَنا كالشُّخوصِ عندَ الظِّلالِ

And we witnessed you from a distant place

With us like figures in the shadows

بَدِّلِ البُعدَ والجَفاءَ بِقُرْبٍ

وحَنانٍ فالبُعْدُ حَتْفُ الرِّجالِ

Replace the distance and aloofness with nearness

And affection, for distance is the ruin of men

وأغِثْنا من لوعَةِ الهَجْرِ فَضلاً

بَعضُ شأنِ السَّاداتِ غَوْثُ المَوالي

And relieve us from the agony of estrangement, grace

It is the way of masters to aid subjects
