أَتانا من صَبا نجدٍ نَسيمٌ

فغِبْنا عند هَبَّاتِ النَّسيمِ

A breeze came to us from the youth of Najd

So we were absent with the blowing of the breeze

وأَفرغَ في منازِلِنا شَميماً

فما أَزْكى شَذاهُ من شَميمِ

And it poured into our dwellings a fragrance

So how good is its aroma from the fragrance

يُذكِّرُنا بأَيَّامٍ تقَضَّتْ

ويبْعَثُنا إلى العهدِ القَديمِ

It reminds us of days that have passed

And takes us back to the old era

ويكتبُ في القُلُوبِ رَقيمَ وجدٍ

فيا للهِ من ذاكَ الرَّقيمِ

And writes in the hearts a yearning nostalgia

What a nostalgia from that nostalgia

نُطارِحُ فيه أَهوالاً شِداداً

ونمرحُ منهُ بالحُبِّ الصَّميمِ

In it we throw away severe horrors

And frolic in it with true love

تلِذُّ لنا المَتاعِبُ فيه ذَوْقاً

كما لذَّ الشِّفاءُ إلى السَّقيمِ

Hardships are sweet to us in it

As healing was sweet to the sick

يُهاجِمُنا بأَشواقٍ وشجْوٍ

مُهاجَمَةَ الغَريمِ على الغَريمِ

It attacks us with yearning and passion

The attack of an enemy upon an enemy

ويُرسِلُ من لطائفِهِ شُؤوناً

تُفيضُ الرُّوحَ في العظْمِ الرَّميمِ

And sends from its subtleties sorrows

That overflow the spirit in the worn bone

نَديمُ تَلَهُّفٍ ومُدامُ لُطْفٍ

وسُكْرٌ بالمُدامَةِ والنَّديمِ

A companion of yearning and a cup of kindness

And intoxication with the cup and the companion

يُديرُ لنا من المَعنى كُؤوساً

فتذهَبُ بالشُّكوكِ والهُمومِ

It turns for us from meaning cups

So doubts and worries disappear

ويَبرُزُ من حُبابِ الكأْسِ نورٌ

فيقْذِفُ كلَّ شيْطانٍ رَجيمِ

And a light appears from bubbles of the cup

Casting away every accursed devil

فكم فتكَتْ بنا تلكَ النَّواحِي

بعيْنِ غَزالَةٍ وبجِيدِ رِيمِ

So how those regions destroyed us

With the eye of a gazelle and the cheek of an oryx

نَسيرُ بها على وَجَلٍ كأَنَّا

نَسيرُ على الصِراطِ المُسْتَقيمِ

We walk in it anxiously as if

We walk the straight path

ونأَخُذُ جانِبَ الغاباتِ منها

بسَيْرِ الصِّدقِ والقلبِ السَّليمِ

And we take the side of its forests

With the walk of truth and a sound heart

فنمْشي والأُسودُ لها زَئيرٌ

يرُجُّ مكانَةَ الطَّوْدِ العَظيمِ

So we walk while the lions roar for it

Shaking the standing of the great herd

ومن عَجَبٍ هي الآسادُ هاجَتْ

وماجَتْ بين غِزْلانِ الصَّريمِ

And strangely the lionesses were passionate

And swayed between the baby deer

فيا لله كم حطمَتْ أُسوداً

بنَصْلِ الرّمشِ آرامُ الحَطيمِ

My God, how many lions they destroyed

With the cutting edge of the eyelash, the resolute woman

تُمِرُّ العيشَ للعُشَّاقِ وجداً

وقد مرَّت على الرَّوضِ البَسيمِ

Life passes the lovers ecstasy

After passing the blossomed garden

وتلسعُهُمْ بحيَّاتٍ لَعَمْري

هي التِّرْياقُ للكبِدِ السَّليمِ

And it stings them with snakes, by my life

It is the antidote for the sound liver

وتفْتَرُّ ابتِساماً عن ثُغورٍ

رصدْنَ الكنزَ بالدُّرِّ النَّظيمِ

And it reveals a smile from mouths

That detected treasure with precious pearls

وكم للعاشِقينَ بها شُؤونٌ

تُحيرُ الفكرَ للدَّرْبِ الحَكيمِ

And how many affairs the lovers have in it

That confuse the mind on the wise path

بحالٍ يستَميلُ الطَّوْدَ وجداً

وعزمٍ فوقَ أَبراجِ النُّجومِ

In a state that melts the herd in passion

And determination above the stars

ونارٍ للسَّماءِ لها دُخانٌ

ودمعٍ سحَّ كالسَّيلِ السَّجيمِ

And a fire whose smoke is in the sky for it

And tears that flowed like pouring rain

وذُهلَةِ همَّةٍ عن كلِّ غيرٍ

تفوقُ ذُهولَ أَصحابِ الرَّقيمِ

And the perplexity of great ambition

Beyond the perplexity of the people of the saddlebags

وأَنٍّ راح يتبعُهُ حَنينٌ

أَتى بعجائِبِ الأَلَمِ الأَليمِ

And a soft moan followed by yearning

That came with wonders of immense pain

إِذا ما نارُهُمْ لمعَتْ عليهم

وأَجَّ طُوًى بلاهِبِها الضَّريمِ

When their fire flashed upon them

And the flames blazed with its kindler

رأَيتَ القومَ صرعَى قامَ فيهم

تجَلٍّ قامَ في موسى الكَليمِ

You would see the people fallen down

An apparition appeared like with Moses the Kalim

إِشاراتٌ تُعيدُ اللَّيلَ ظُهراً

وتطوي الظُّهرَ في اللَّيلِ البَهيمِ

Signals that bring the night backwards

And fold the daylight in the stupid night

وتُكمِلُ ناقِصَ العِرفانِ عِلماً

وتفضَحُ حَيْرَةَ الرَّجُلِ العَليمِ

And complete the deficient knowledge

And expose the confusion of the knowledgeable man

وتَجلو الخادِمَ الأَدنى أَميراً

وتَسْفُلُ بالأَميرِ عن الخَديمِ

And reveal the lowly servant as prince

And debase the prince from the servant

وتُبْرِزُ في الجَبانِ شديدَ بأَسٍ

وتَقلِبُ هدأَةَ الطَّبعِ الحَليمِ

And bring out bravery in the coward

And turn over calmness of the forbearing nature

وتُكسِبُ فاضِحَ الأَسرارِ كتماً

وتُعطي الفَضْحَ للرَّجلِ الكَتومِ

And give the secret revealer concealment

And give exposure to the secretive man

وتَملأُ رَيْضَ الأَفْكارِ همًّا

وتَستَخْلي الحَزينَ من الهُمومِ

And fill the meadow of thoughts with worries

And empty the sorrowful of worries

وقد يَغدو العَديمُ بها ملِيًّا

ورَبُّ المالِ كالمرْءِ العَديمِ

And the penniless may become wealthy through it

And the wealthy like the penniless man

وأَكرَمُ من يُشارُ له بَخيلاً

ويُطوى البُخْلُ في الحُرِّ الكَريمِ

And most generous whom was called stingy

And stinginess is folded in the generous

رَقائقُ من مَعانٍ مُضْمَراتٍ

تجلَّت من أَساجيفِ الغُيومِ

Subtleties from concealed meanings

That appeared from the clouds

تُميطُ نِقابَ أَسرارٍ دِقاقٍ

تُذيعُ السِّرَّ للفَطِنِ الفَهيمِ

Removing the veil of subtle secrets

Spreading the secret to the perceptive mind

تأمَّلْ يا هَداكَ اللهُ فيها

وخذْ من طيِّها نشرَ العُلومِ

Contemplate, may God guide you through it

And take from its folding the spreading of knowledge

فتلكَ حَقائِقٌ رفعَتْ مَباني

نِظامَ المجدِ والنَّهْجِ القَويمِ

For those are realities that raised

The system of glory and the straight path

نقِّلْ يا رُوحُ نحو الحيِّ رُوحي

وقلْ يا نفسُ بالأَحبابِ هِيمي

Transport, O soul, to the Living, my soul

And say, O self, roam with the beloved

وقلْ يا لمَّةَ الشَّيْطانِ زُولي

وقلْ يا رحمَةَ الرَّحمنِ دُومي

And say, O nation of Satan, be gone

And say, O mercy of the Merciful, last
