أهلاً بليلى قد جلت هلالها

وأبرزت لأهلها جلالها

Welcome Lilah, her crescent has risen

And shown her people her majesty

كأنها لما انجلت بمرطها

شمسٌ أباحت للورى جمالها

As if when she appeared unveiled

A sun allowed creation to see her beauty

تلمع في سمائها ما أبصرت

عين امرءٍ وحقها مثالها

In her sky shines what no eye has seen

And none can match her archetype

غرامها دعا القلوب للفنا

وكم عقولٍ للهوى أمالها

Passion for her calls hearts to annihilation

And how many minds to love she's inclined

تداعت العشاق في أعتابها

وطرحت في رحبها آمالها

Lovers flocked to her door

And in her courtyard cast their hopes

قد قصدتها تروم غيرها

وأنزلت ببابها رحالها

She came seeking another

And unloaded her bags at his door

وكم وراء سترها لاحت لهم

فذهلوا حين زأوا خيالها

Behind her veil, images appeared to them

And they were confounded when they saw her specter

وأخذتهم من هولها رعدةٌ

زلزلت الأرض بها زلزاها

Her awe took them in tremors

That shook the earth with her earthquake

يا راكب البكر الخلوج مجهدا

زمزم بها وأطلق لها عقالها

O rider of the swift camel, over-exerted

Murmur her name, release her tether

واضرب بها الدو ولا تهدأ إلى

أن تلق حول حاجرٍ أثقالها

Strike the milestones and do not rest

Until you reach the ring of her campsite

وتلق سكان العقيق موصلاً

بحبل ليلى ريضاً حبالها

Meet the people of Al-Aqeeq conveying

The rope of Lilah's acceptance of her vows

هناك دعها تذرع البيدا وتر

عى روضها وتنتقي زلالها

There, let her don her gown and graze

Her meadow and pick its pools

ولا تزم شاكماً زمامها

ولا تحول عن هواها حالها

Do not curb her with the reins

Nor change her love in any way

فإنها قد أوصلتك بغيةً

ورح المحب راضياً تفدى لها

For she has brought you to your goal

And the lover leaves pleased, ransomed to her

يا أهل ليلى والغرام سكرةٌ

تميل عن حب السوى رجالها

O people of Lilah, passion is an inebriation

That sways from loving another their men

نحن بليلى ليلنا نهارنا

تبوأت أرواحنا ظلالها

With Lilah our night is our day

Our souls dwell in her shade

تمر في موكبها وتنثني

ترن في قلوبنا جلجالها

She passes in procession bending

Her anklets ring in our hearts

اللَه ما أبهى شعاع حسنها

وما أحيلى عندنا دلالها

By God, how splendid the rays of her beauty

And how sweet to us her coquetry

ذلت لها أطوارنا بطبعها

ولن يذل طورنا إلا لها

For her nature our manners are humbled

And our ways will bow to none but her

يا نسمةً مرت بشرقي اللوى

مرنحاً يمينها شمالها

O breeze that passed by the east of ardour

Inclining to the right of it and to the left

أذكيت ناراً في فؤادٍ وللَه

أضرمت في ضميره اشتعالها

You ignited a fire in a heart and by God

Lit up longing in his conscience

فاح له منخدر ليلى نفحةٌ

حين هببت فبكى أطلالها

From slumbering Lilah wafted a scent

At which he wept for her ruins

للَه كم من أنةٍ قد جرها

لها وكم من دمعةٍ أسالها

By God, how many sighs she drew from him

And how many tears she caused to flow

ولوعةٍ بسره ساكنةٍ

وفكرةٍ لأجلها أطالها

And how much anguish resides in his core

And thoughts prolonged for her sake

ولهفةٍ بلبه ثائرةٍ

ومهجةٍ أودعها بلبالها

And yearning raging in his heart

And affection she deposited in his mind

مطروحةٍ بباب ليلى تركت

لما عليها في الهوى وما لها

Lying at the door of Lilah, leaving

Behind all she had of love and all she owned

ترعدها الغصة إن ما سألت

ولا مجيبٌ سامعٌ سوآلها

Shivering from sadness if she asked

With no answerer listening to her call

تروم ليلى وعلى أمثالها

ليلى علوّاً حرمت وصالها

Lilah is sought but the like of her

Lilah is exalted, forbidden from union

أقسم بالجرعاء من بطحائها

ومن رأى مولهاً غزالها

I swear by the valley of her enclosure

And who saw grazing there a gazelle

والناهزين نحوها قوافلاً

تجهد وجداً للحمى جمالها

And the caravans headed toward her

Exhausted by yearning for her beauty

لها عيونٌ من عيونٍ قد جرت

رشت على قيعانها سجالها

She has eyes from eyes that have shed

Tears flowing to her pupils

وبعثت من نوحها سحائباً

تجر في رياضها أذيالها

And sent from her lamenting the clouds

Dragging behind them their tails

إني على العهد القديم في الهوى

وكم نفوس الغرام اغتالها

In love I keep the old pact

And how many souls passion slew

أحب ليلي طارحاً لوامها

وقاطعاً في حبها عذالها

I love Lilah, heedless of blame

And cutting in her love the reproachers

ترمقها عيني ولن ترى السوى

وغيرها واللَه ما حلالها

My eyes see her and see no other

By God, none but her is made lawful

لها بها وحقها مآربٌ

عسى بعزم الدق أن تنالها

For her sake and her right there are purposes

Hopefully with resolve they will be attained

قد رفعت لربها ضراعها

بحبها وأبدت ابتهالها

She has lifted to her Lord her palms

In love of her and shown her supplication

للَه أوقاتٌ بسلعٍ قد مضت

قصارها قد زاحمت طوالها

By God, times in bygone eras

Whose shortness crowded their length

يرسم فكر الصب في خيالها

صار وطيب عيشها خبالها

The lover's mind depicts in fantasy

Her life of goodness and its miracles

يا أرض ليلى والحياء لم يزل

يرش في هطاله تلالها

O land of Lilah, shyness has not ceased

To sprinkle its hills with her traits

حسبك مني مقلةٌ ساهرةٌ

عليك كل الكون ما استمالها

You are enough for me, a sleepless lover

For you all creation sought her favours

خافتةٌ ترقب شمسك التي

قد بلغت بنورها كمالها

Faintly waiting for your sun that

Reached with its light perfection

ونشرت في الملاثين بردها

ونسجت بينهما غلغالها

And in the horizons spread its coolness

And spun between them its threads

طافت بها قلوب أهل ودها

وبالهدى قد محقت ضلالها

Hearts of her loving people circled her

And with guidance she erased their misguidance

وأبرأت بلطفها سقامها

جهراً وداوت منةً عضالها

With her kindness she relieved their pain

Loudly, and cured their enduring afflictions

تفيض آلاء الغيوب مبرزٌ

يمينها من طمسها أشكالها

The bounties of the unseen overflow

Her right hand, though forms obscure them

وتكشف الجلى وعن جلالةٍ

يسأل كل عاشقٍ نوالها

She reveals the manifest and the majesty

Each lover asks for her bestowal

لم تدخل الدخيل رحب قدسها

ما برحت رجالها رجالها

No stranger entered her sanctum

Her men remained her men

قامت بأرض اللَه عنها عصبةٌ

أوتادها أقطابها أبدالها

For her a band of loyalists stood

Her pillars and poles were the righteous

فدوخت بعزمها أقيالها

وأيقظت بهديها أجيالها

With their resolve she shook the mighty

And with her guidance awakened generations

باللَه يا ليلاي رفقاً بامرئٍ

طوى البرايا ورمى آمالها

By God, O my Laila, be gentle with one

Who roamed the wild and tossed his hopes

زوى كنوزها وفاتها وقد

ألقى إلى طلابها أقفالها

Amassed her treasures and missed her, and had

Flung open to her seekers their locks

ولو أراد ذورة البدر بما

أعطاه فضلا ربه لطالها

Had the full moon sought what

Her Lord's grace gave in abundance, it would prolong them

فأقفيه بقبول صدقه

وبسماع مجملاٍ قالها

So receive him with accepting his sincerity

And hearing his concise words
