كانوا رَبيعاً للقُلُو
بِ وجنَّةً للأعْيُنِ
They were a spring for hearts,
A paradise for eyes,
ووسيلَةً لأُولي الطَّري
قِ إلى المَقامِ الأَحسنِ
And a means for the people of the path
To the most sublime abode.
وقضَوْا كِراماً طيِّبي
نَ وعيشُهُمْ عيشٌ هَني
They lived honorable, pleasant lives,
Their livelihood was comfortable.
فازوا بقُرْبِ مَليكِهِمْ
ورِكابُهُمْ لم تَنْثَنِ
They won nearness to their King,
Their mounts did not falter.
طَبَعوا على الذِّكرِ القُلُو
بَ وناطِقاتِ اللألسُنِ
They imprinted hearts with remembrance,
And tongues with eloquence.
وسَرَوْا لحضْرَةِ أُنسِهِمْ
وتوسَّطوا الرُّحْبَ السَّني
They journeyed to the presence of their intimacy,
And trod the spacious meadow.
وأَنا أقولُ ورَكْبُهُمْ
يَسري بهِمْ يا لَيْتَني
As for me, I say as their caravan
Moves on with them, "Oh, would that I were!"
