في رياض النخيل يجمع فيها الفجر

شمل الضياء بعد شتات

In the palm groves the dawn gathers

In the palm gardens where dawn assembles

The splendor after its scattering

The union of light after its scattering.

فإذا الروض فتنة تتجلى

من صناع الأنامل المبدعات

And the garden appears as charm embodied

Thus the garden becomes a revealed enchantment,

By the work of creative fingers

From the work of creative fingertips.

أخذت جليها الطبيعة فيه

وبدت في غلائل عطرات

Nature has clad it in its finery

Nature has taken its adornment therein,

And adorned it in scented locks

And appeared in fragrant, sheer robes.

توجت بالزهور مفرقها

الجدول رب الخمائل الهامسات

It has crowned it with flowers

It crowned the stream's parting with flowers,

The stream, lord of sly gazelles

The master of the whispering thickets.

و انثنت تستحث ماشطة الريح

و تبدي النجيل للماشطات

Bends down hastily combing the wind

And it swayed, urging the combing wind,

And reveals the meadows to the combs

Revealing the grass to the combers.

و المروج الحسان هامت عليها

حرق من تنهدات الرعاة

And the beautiful pastures sway over it

And the beautiful meadows, wandering upon them,

Burnt by the shepherds' sighs

Are burning passions from the shepherds' sighs.

و العذارى بين الربى يتهادين

ندي النوار و الزهرات

And the maidens converse gently

And maidens among the hills exchange gifts,

With the chime of bells and flowers

The dew of blossoms and flowers.

و الغدير الوسنان ظلله الكرم

و اصبى امواجه الموهنات

And the tender stream is shaded by the vine

And the drowsy brook is shaded by vines,

Its waves weakened

Charming its weary, languid waves.

منظر تستخف ألوانه الطير

فتزجي ألحانها الساحرات

A scene whose colors bewilder the birds

A scene whose colors delight the birds,

That trill their enchanting melodies

So they pour forth their enchanting melodies.

و هدوء الحقول تلقى لديه

النفس ما ترتجيه من غايات

And the tranquility of the fields

And in the quiet of the fields, the soul finds

Gives the soul what it aspires beyond

What it hopes for of ultimate goals.

فهو نور يهدي سفائن فكاري

ألى ما وراء بحر الحياة

It is a light that guides the ships of my thoughts

For it is a light guiding the ships of my thoughts,

To what lies beyond the sea of life

يحملان الحديث عن مرقص البحر

و حور الشواطىء اللاعبات

That converse about the dance of the sea

Carrying talk from the sea's dance floor,

And the playful beach maidens

And the playful nymphs of the shores.

و عن الشط و النخيل السكارى

في الليالي القمراء و المظلمات

And about the enchanting palms

And of the beach and the drunken palms,

On the silvery and dark nights

In the moonlit nights and the dark ones.

رنحتها الأنسام لما سقتها العطر

في أكؤس الندى المترعات

The breezes have tilted them when the fragrance poured

Swayed by breezes when they watered them with scent,

Drinks from cups of dewy pastures

In brimming cups of dew.

وقروط الأغداق تهتز أغراق

لفلك شوارع جاريات

And the handles of the buckets sway

And the heavy clusters shake like earrings,

In the revolving streets of the well

For ships sailing in flowing streets.

صور تسجد النفوس لديها

وتضج القلوب بالصلوات

Scenes that humble souls before them

Images before which souls bow down,

And fill hearts with prayers

And hearts clamor with prayers.

أينما دار ناظري طالعتني

فتنة تستعيدها نظراتي

Wherever my gaze turns I see

Wherever my sight turns, there confronts me

The charm my eyes regain

A charm that my gazes constantly recall.
