1. هذي مغاني جلّق و المعالم

    لك الخير أم هل أنت و سنان حالم

    These are the abodes and landmarks of Jilliq;

    Blessings to you, or are you but a slumbering dreamer?

  2. بلى هذه أمّ العواصم جلّق

    و هذه ليوث الغوطتين الضراغم

    Indeed, this is the mother of capitals, Jilliq,

    And these are the fierce, devouring lions of the two Ghoutas.

  3. هنا عرش أقمار العلى من أميّة

    هنا ارتكزت سمر العوالي اللّهادم

    Here lies the throne of the moons of greatness from Umayya,

    Here were planted the dark, towering, devastating spears.

  4. هنا ابن أبي سفيان أشرق تاجه

    تؤيّده البيض الرقاق الصوارم

    Here the crown of Ibn Abi Sufyan shone brightly,

    Supported by the thin, sharp white swords.

  5. هنا اليعربيّون الألى عزّ جارهم

    فليس له في غوطة الشام هاضم

    Here are the Ya'rubids, whose neighbors are honored and protected,

    So none within the Ghouta of Sham can oppress them.

  6. هنا النفر البيض الميامين ، للعلى

    ملامح في غرّاتهم و علائم

    Here are the noble, blessed, radiant figures; of greatness

    There are clear features and signs upon their foreheads.

  7. هنا العرب الأنجاد إن قام ظالم

    مشوا بالقنا أو يرجع الحقّ ظالم

    Here are the brave Arabs; should an oppressor arise,

    They march with spears until the oppressor restores the right.

  8. من القوم ما زفّت لغير كرامهم

    حسانهم البيض الغواني الكرائم

    They are a people whose women are wedded to none but their own nobles:

    Their beautiful, radiant, self-sufficient, and honored women.

  9. إذا انتسبوا في ندوة المجد حلّقت

    بهم للعلى قيس و ذهل و دارم

    If they trace their lineage in the assembly of glory,

    Qays, Dhuhl, and Darim soar with them to greatness.

  10. بني الغرب هاتوا شاهدا عندزعمكم

    بغير دليل لا تقوم المزاعم

    O sons of the West, bring forth a witness for your claims,

    For without proof, claims cannot stand.

  11. تعالوا نعدّ الصيد منّا و منكم

    ففي الناس مقبول الحكومة عالم

    Come, let us count the proud leaders from us and from you,

    For among the people is a knowledgeable judge whose ruling is accepted.

  12. أفيكم لسيف الله و الحقّ خالد

    إذا عدّت الأفذاذ ندّ مزاحم

    Is there among you for Khalid, the Sword of God and Truth,

    When the unique ones are counted, a rival to match him?

  13. و هاتوا غداة الفخر أنداد خالد

    و يحكم فيما بيننا اليوم حاكم

    Bring forth, on the morning of boasting, the peers of Khalid,

    And let a judge rule between us today.

  14. و هاتوا لنا أنداد موسى و طارق

    لنعرف من تخزيه منّا المواسم

    And bring us the peers of Musa and Tariq,

    So we may know which of us the festive gatherings will put to shame.

  15. فلا تفخروا : ألفخر للعرب وحدهم

    و للعرب قعساء العلى و المكارم

    So do not boast: pride belongs to the Arabs alone,

    And to the Arabs belong the towering heights of glory and noble deeds.

  16. لقد زعموا أني بجلّق هائم

    أجل والهوى إنّي بجلّق هائم

    They have claimed that I am deeply infatuated with Jilliq;

    Yes, by love, I am truly infatuated with Jilliq!

  17. وفيت بعهد الغوطتين وهذه

    شهودي القوافي و الدموع السواجم

    I have kept the covenant of the two Ghoutas, and these

    Are my witnesses: the rhymes and the pouring tears.

  18. و أصفيت أبناء الشام مودّتي

    صغيرا و ما نيطت عليّ التمائم

    And I have offered my pure affection to the sons of Sham,

    Since I was a child, before amulets were even hung upon me.

  19. إذا رضيت عنّي صناديد جلّق

    فأهون شيء ما تقول اللّوائم

    If the great lords of Jilliq are pleased with me,

    Then the easiest thing to dismiss is the chatter of blaming women.

  20. إذا ظلّ مجد العرب في الشام سالما

    فمجد بني قحطان في الشرق سالم

    If the glory of the Arabs remains safe in Sham,

    Then the glory of the sons of Qahtan in the East is safe.

  21. سلاما عروس المشرقين و لا مشت

    بظلّ مغانيك الخطوب الغواشم

    Peace be upon the Bride of the Two Easts, and may

    Tyrannical calamities never walk in the shade of your abodes.

  22. خذي قلّدي ماشت جيدا و معصما

    من اللؤلؤ الرطب الذي أنا ناظم

    Take and adorn whatever neck and wrist you wish,

    With the fresh pearls that I am stringing.

  23. سليني دمي يا أمّ أسفكه راضيا

    و ما أنا هيّاب و لا أنا نادم

    Ask me for my blood, O Mother, and I will shed it willingly,

    For I am neither fearful nor regretful.

  24. طلاسم هذا الذلّ دقّت و إنّما

    تفكّ بحدّ السيف هذي الطلاسم

    The talismans of this humiliation are intricate, yet

    These talismans are only broken by the edge of the sword.

  25. و للبطل صولات على الحقّ جمّة

    و تسفر عن فوز المحقّ الخواتم

    And the hero has many fierce charges for the sake of truth,

    And the conclusions reveal the victory of the rightful.

  26. يفوز بأوطار الحياة محارب

    و يرجع بالخذلان فيها مسالم

    A warrior attains the desires of life,

    While a pacifist returns from it in disappointment.

  27. أرى الناس هذا ضاحك متفائل

    غرورا ، و هذا نادب متشائم

    I see people: this one laughing and optimistic

    In delusion, and that one wailing and pessimistic.

  28. فقل لضعيف راح يسأل رحمة

    رويدك ما للضعف في الناس راحم

    So say to the weak one who goes asking for mercy:

    Gently! Weakness finds no merciful soul among the people.

  29. و قل للّذي جافي على القرب أهله

    رويدك تقوى بالخوافي القوادم

    And say to the one who shuns his kin despite their closeness:

    Gently! The primary flight feathers gain their strength from the hidden ones.
