أَبَني لُبَينى لَستُمُ بِيَدٍ

إِلّا يَداً لَيسَت لَها عَضُدُ

My sweet daughters, you are not in my hands,

Except as hands without strength.

أَبَني لُبَينى لا أُحِقُّكُمُ

وَجَدَ الإِلَهُ بِكُم كَما أَجدُ

My sweet daughters, I do not wrong you,

God has found you as I have found you.

أَبَني لُبَينى لَستُ مُعتَرِفاً

لِيَكونَ أَلأَمَ مِنكُمُ أَحَدُ

My sweet daughters, I do not confess

That one of you has pained me.

أَبَني لُبَينى إِنَّ أُمُّكُمُ

أَمَةٌ وَإِنَّ أَباكُمُ عَبدُ

My sweet daughters, your mother

Is a slave woman and your father a slave.

أَبَني لُبَينى إِنَّ أُمُّكُمُ

دَحَقَت فَخَرَّقَ ثَفرَها الزَندُ

My sweet daughters, your mother

Was hit and her womb torn open by a spear.

تُنفَونَ عَن طُرُقِ الكِرامِ كَما

تَنفي المَطارِقُ ما يَلي القَرَدُ

You avoid the paths of nobility as

The hammer avoids what is next to the monkey.

وَكَأَنَّ ظُعنَ الحَيِّ مُدبِرَةً

نَخلٌ بِزارَةَ حَملُهُ السُعُدُ

And it is as if the stabs of the living stabbed you in the back,

Date palms heavy with fruit carried by buzzards.

خانَتكَ مِنهُ ما عَلِمتَ كَما

خانَ الإِخاءَ خَليلَهُ لُبَدُ

He has betrayed you as much as you know, as

Lubaid betrayed his brother-friend.
