By al-Lat and al-Uzza, and she whose faith they share,
And Allah—Allah is greater than them all.
I fear the neighing horses in their swift gallop,
And a jealous Lord whose face becomes enraged,
With oxen crafted in Yathrib, locked shut,
And the dark-skinned, crescent moon of Hilal set to wander.
. . . . . . . . . .
...
No safety from the wolf, while oil gets pressed.
