طُلسُ العِشاءِ إِذا ما جَنَّ لَيلُهُمُ

بِالمُندِياتِ إِلى جاراتِهِم دُلُفُ

When their night spreads its gown

and the girls sneak to visit their neighbors,

وَالفارِسِيَّةُ فيهِم غَيرُ مُنكَرَةٍ

فَكُلُّهُم لِأَبيهِ ضَيزَنٌ سَلِفُ

the Persian style becomes common among them,

as they are all for their father a past legacy.

نيكوا فُكَيهَةَ وَاِمشوا حَولَ قُبَّتِها

مَشيَ الزَرافَةِ في آباطِها الخَجَفُ

Walk gently around Ukayhah’s dome,

with the gait of an ostrich in its soft sand.

لَولا بَنو مالِكٍ وَالإِلُّ مَرقَبَةٌ

وَمالِكٌ فيهِمُ الآلاءُ وَالشَرَفُ

Had it not been for Malik’s sons, and God keeps watch,

and Malik is among them exalted and noble,

أَم دَلَّكُم بَعضُ مَن يَرتادَ مَشتَمَتي

بِأَيِّ أَكلَةِ لَحمٍ تُؤكَلُ الكَتِفُ

Or did one who frequents my haunts mislead you,

asking with what meat is the shoulder eaten?
