  1. قَد أَوعَدوني بِأَرماحٍ مُعَلَّبَةٍ

    سودٍ لُقِطنَ مِنَ الحَومانِ أَخلاقِ

    They promised me spears, polished black,

    Taken from the most ignoble race.

  2. لَم يَسلُبوها وَلَم يُعطوا بِها ثَمَناً

    أَيدي النِعامِ فَلا أَسقاهُمُ الساقي

    They neither captured nor paid a price for them.

    May the hands of ostriches fail to avail them water.

  3. عَمروَ اِبنَ أَسوَدَ فا زَبّاءَ قارِبَةٍ

    ماءَ الكُلابِ عَلَيها الظَبيَ مِعناقِ

    'Amr son of 'Uswad will soon sail his boat

    To the spring of dogs, where antelopes graze.
