When Ubaylah saw me, with my hair parted like rays,

She exclaimed: “By God, how brave you are,

The lion of the land submits to your awe!”

I said to her: “Ask the heroes about me,

When the clanging of shields makes cowards flee.

Ask them to tell you my resolve stands firm,

Against the enemies in your land.

I am the fortunate slave, my luck and effort,

    Tower over misfortune, rising high.

I ascended to the pinnacle of glory,

So high none could compete, in the sky.

Another tried to match my striving,

But with all his might, only followed my lead.

He fell short of reaching my noble goals,

    Exhausting himself, lacking the deed.

A noble steed carries my weapons and gear,

Sent forth when duty and valor call.

In my hands, the polished lethal blade,

That cures the head’s ache and sorrow’s pall.

My lance's point flashes bright as fire,

    Threatening like flames leaping high.

I do not waver when faced with harshness,

Nor hesitate when the need is nigh.”
