The phantom of Phantoms visited Abla in the dwellings
Of the amorous, perfumed, and unbound Lamiyy
So I stood up complaining of what I suffered from her absence
And she breathed musk mixed with ambergris
I drew her close to me so that I may kiss her lips
While tears from my eyelids moistened the earth
And I unveiled her face, so it shone
Bringing back the radiant light to the dark night
An Arab lady, whose soft body sways
Making lovers think it is a brown spear
Veiled with swords and shackles
Dark-complexioned, with a lion inside her veil
O Abda, your love has exceeded all bounds
While I am meaningful to you beyond all creation
O Abda, your love is in my bones and my blood
Ever since your soul mingled with my body
And I have clung to the tail of the one you are proud of
Abs, whose father's sword destroyed the tribe of Hameer
Oh what a miserable love that kills me
I am ever more lovesick and inflamed
Oh overseer, if not for the authority of passion
With resolute will, I would have overcome Antarah
