O breeze of Hejaz, by the right of the One who created you
Return my greetings and give life to the one who greeted you
Blow gently, perhaps you will find my longing abating
And the fires of my passion cooling in your breeze
O breeze, were it not for the remnant of perfume
From the mounts of Abila that clings to you still
How could I bear this, when I have not heard doves mourning
Except that I was the first to weep with them
After visiting her grave, the image of her departed
Has vanished from me, leaving but barren ruins behind
O Abila, I do not fear the doves, but rather
I fear for your eyes at the time of weeping
O Abila, do not grieve for my absence, and rejoice
In my safety, take comfort in my deliverance
Why did you not ask the horses, o daughter of Malik
If some of your enemies have fooled you
They would tell you, I who was in Damascus
Have sifted affection from those who sought my demise
The misguided ones conspired against me and by morning
They pleaded for mercy from my deadly sword
So I pardoned their wealth and their women
And protected a quarter of the people, like protective cover
And I charged against the non-Arabs with a raid
That shook the celestial angels in the cosmic spheres
Scattering them when they came upon me in the open desert
With the piercing point of a blood-letting spear
