1. ولقد أجمعُ رِجلَيَّ بها

    حَذَرَ الموتِ وإِنّي لَفَرورُ

    I have gathered together my two legs in it

    Fearing death though I am truly cunning

  2. ولقد أعطِفُها كارهةً

    حين للنفس من الموت هَريرُ

    And I turn it away reluctantly

    When the soul has from death a murmuring

  3. كلُّ ماذلك منّي خُلُقٌ

    وبكلٍ أنا في الرَّوع جديرُ

    All that is from me a nature

    And in all I in fright am deserving

  4. وابنُ صُبحٍ سادِراً يُوعِدُني

    مالهُ في الناسِ ما عِشتُ مُجيرُ

    And the son of Sobh threatening me while intoxicated

    He has against the people what protection I live no protector
